  • Dwayne Jarrett and Greg Olsen

I think if Greg Olsen, Dwayne Jarret, Reggie Nelson, and Michael Griffin are stil on the board when the Eagles pick then I think they make take Olsen because Smith may not be back after next year. I know we need safety help, but Merriweather and Weddle have a small chance to be there when the Eagles pick in the 2nd. Now, if Olsen is off the board I would take Jarrett. I know WR is not a real big need and the Eagles are "fine" with Brown, Curtis, and Avant, and Baskett, but I really do think Jarrett is the 2nd best WR in the draft. I have no idea why he is not projected to go in the top 20 and is looked at as the 6th or 7th best WR. I would love to take him if he is there. This is the order for me if they are on the board.

    1. Olsen
    2. Jarrett
    3. Nelson/Griffin(It doesn't matter because they both make plays)

How would you guys go about drafting if Olsen, Jarret, Nelson, and Griffin are still on the board.

    Couple Thoughts:

    - Eagles will not draft a WR in this years draft unless it's a 6th or 7th round training camp fodder pick

    - Olsen will be gone by #26. He's highly coveted.

    - Reggie Nelson should be the pick as he's a playmaker and coverageman extraordinaire in the Ed Reed mold.

    - Griffin is nice but too much like Michael Lewis in that he can play the run well but is average in coverage if not a liability.

Now...In your scenario..if they were all available?

    I'd take Reggie Nelson.

Olsen is tempting and probably a stud and we need to replace LJ...but man...you can't pass on a playmaking safety. When Dawkins finally breaks down - which time says is soon - we need a stud in the wings (Groomed under Dawk while he can still play).

I'm a believer that TE is extremely inportant in this O. Having said that I only go after Olsen if I think the LJ race isn't in the birds favor; and if I do I am telling him he is gone after next year. But I would love to have Olsen.
Not a fan of WR early in the draft as I think Andy & Co think they are OK with who they have.
I think it comes down to Safety being the #1 need and CB/DE being the next 'really like to have guys' on the list.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy
      RIP

You make good points. I love Nelson, but isn't he more of a FS? We need a SS because I don't trust Considine that much as a starter. Can Nelson play SS?

The other wild card is if either Chris Houston or Aaron Ross is still on the board. The more I think about it, we need a third CB this year. I don't have a lot of faith in William James (Peterson). I agree with Nelson over Griffin and I would not be disapointed if he is picked over a CB. Olsen will not be there at 26, but if he is I would snap him up. This is a deep draft for CB's and Safeties and we could get a quality player in both positions in the second or third rounds.

Overall I would go Houston, Nelson, Ross, any of Timmons, Posluzney or Beason if available or Griffin in Round 1 I would give some thought to a WR if any of Jarrett, Bowe or Meachem are still there, but I only if Houston, Nelson or Ross are gone.

In round 2, I would go Safety or CB, unless David Harris (MLB) or Alama-Francis or Jay Moore (DE) are there

Round 3 is where it gets interesting.
I could see Tony Hunt or Brian Leonard if they have not yet been picked.
Spaeth and Chandler are two 6'7'' TE's that would be good value. Otherwise there are plenty of CB's and Safeties if they have not yet picked one.

I think too much stock is placed on the SS vs. FS concept. A great Safety is a great safety.

A - You should groom Dawkins replacement. So that should mean Reggie Nelson being a FS.

B - Considine is not awful. I don't subscribe to that theory that some have. I would focus on Dawks replacement.

C - Chris Houston - according the Kiper - is a bust waiting to happen - FWIW.
