We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I really don't understand Washington doing this. If the Colts, who gave up a first round draft pick, and have basically no one at QB, are willing to part ways with him, what does that tell you? This was the destination that was ideal for Wentz. Everything was in place for him to return to form. He had the coach he wanted, and a very good surrounding cast. He whined his way out of Philly to get there, even after the Eagles had fired their head coach, and attempted to build a coaching staff to placate him. We all said it, and it's still true IMO, if Reich can't fix Wentz, no one can. And, it really cracks me up to see these delusional Washington fans claiming that good ol' Riverboat Ron is going to fix Wentz. Turn him into a team player, and yada yada yada. Wentz is a douche. He's cooked. And, Riverboat Ron ain't all he's cracked up to be either. He made his reputation off of Cam Newton, and got Cam beat to a pulp in the process. My guess is that both of their days are numbered.

ooof.
Let’s start with Colts head coach Frank Reich. He knew Wentz from their days together with the Philadelphia Eagles. As recently as last week at the NFL Combine, Reich sounded all-in on Wentz.
Now consider what Keefer reported after the trade:
Reich, who originally pushed for the trade to acquire Wentz last winter, apologized to (Jim) Irsay after the season, according to a source. The coach believed he could resurrect Wentz’s stalled career and solve the Colts’ quarterback conundrum. “I stuck my neck out for him last year,” Reich admitted earlier this month.
Speaking of Irsay, Keefer reported it was clear that the owner was done with Wentz.
The quarterback, who learned he was on shaky ground with the organization over the last month, reached out to Irsay in hopes of setting up a meeting to “clear the air,” a source said. Irsay declined the meeting because he was out of town. The two spoke later. ... Colts’ brass simply didn’t trust him to be the franchise quarterback moving forward, and they weren’t willing to bring him back in 2022 and hope for better.
So for the second time in as many years, Wentz is packing his bags.

I guess that all perceptions of Wentz are true. I always thought that they were exaggerated. My bad!

Report: Carson Wentz's lack of leadership, resistance to coaching frustrated Colts Mar 10 3/10/2022 1:24:41 PM |More The Indianapolis Colts surrendered their 2022 first round draft pick to acquire Carson Wentz's from the Eagles.
Now they have traded Wentz to the Commanders. According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, Wentz's personality played a larger role than his play in his abrupt departure from Indianapolis after one season.
Some inside the Indianapolis Colts’ facility were finished with the Carson Wentz experiment long before the team’s late-season collapse, according to several recent conversations with sources inside the organization. Consecutive losses to Las Vegas and Jacksonville in Weeks 17 and 18 — punctuated by poor play from the starting quarterback — cost the team a 97 percent shot at the playoffs and led to owner Jim Irsay calling it “an epic shortfall that stunned and shocked and appalled us all.”
As for the Colts, the issues with Wentz stretched back to before the season began, one source said, and over the course of the year, some grew frustrated at what they deemed a lack of leadership, a resistance to hard coaching and a reckless style of play, which had a role in several close losses this year.
According to one source, the Colts’ divorce with Wentz this offseason was only a matter of time. All that needed to be decided was whether the team would trade or cut him.
And the fact that the Colts were willing to move on from him without a viable Plan B in place — not to mention a thin free-agent class and no first-round draft choice — is especially telling. That’s how determined the Colts were in their decision."Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"

Folks the Commanders/Redskins/Football team whatever the hell they are calling themselves today are MUCH better after this trade. Just blind hatred of Wentz would cause anyone to think otherwise. The fact they got a at least league average QB for two mid round picks and still get to keep the 11 pick with the defense they have. Come on man. The big thing here is this, 27tds to 7 interceptions and no fumbles lost last year. If he just repeats that even with Washington, Washington easily wins 11-12 games in the NFC. Its a weak conference right now. That is even with his 2-3 bad games a year.
I have always thought that Wentz was better than Hurts and on the field Wentz has better skills, the off the field stuff and team mate issues are killing him. Will the same thing happen in Washington, I am sure it will. However, he just needs to play good enough. The rest of that team is stacked. .
I just caution everyone to not do the Hurts to Wentz comparison. Wentz did win one more game than Hurts last year in a much more difficult conference, now Wentz did have a better surround cast but that is the rub her with both QBs. Neither is good enough to elevate the others on the team. In other words they are both league average QB's that need excellent surrounding casts. Hurts defense is horrible. He needs a few more weapons on offense (and he should get those this offseason). The task the Eagles have in front of them is rough. Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

Depends on Wentz, If he comes in here and has his mechanics in check and can lead, this is a HR for the deadskins, but if he fails and is gone in 1 season, 2 third round picks hurts, but it's not crippling. We shall see, if he can hold his head up after traveling to Philly and Indy next year, Washington might be in a good place . Chase Young was a big backer of Heineke, maybe an open competition is more warranted. I really do not wish him harm, but Wentz appears to have an issue in the licker room. Washington and all their administrative baggage would seem to aggravate those concerns. He is an average to below average QB. He ranks 18th or below in yards, attempts, passer rating and yds/apt. He had more opposite hand passes than any other QB. I am on teh record as not being a huge fan of hurts, but Wentz passing numbers really are very similar to Hurts without the running. Washington needs to figure out how to run the ball, run it again and maybe some more so that Wentz does not need to feel pressure. The minute he feels game pressure to perform, he is done. I don't think he gets his head on straight and works to listen and improve. He had that in someone he trusted with the Colts and blew it. Only good news is that Riveria has experience with a QB with an ego; but that kinda fizzled too. Its a cheap option for Washington at an average to below average QB. I get that they are better than what they had, but this really isn't a huge step forward and carries a large cap number too

Huge ego, not a team player, injury prone, makes poor decisions, erratic personal behavior, not as elusive as before, holds the ball too long, mechanics need work.
There are too many things to fix. I also think that Carson is out of the game within the next 2/3 years. His ego is too big and will not be happy as backup. He will come in with a vendetta against the Eagles and his poor decisions will probably be his downfall. Bring it on.

On-field, I think that inconsistency/high variance is the one thing that he needs to address the most. He will likely have some highs with Washington. But how low will the lows be? And will they be problematic enough to affect his mind state and by extension, his tenure/status with his new team?
An NFC scout, who was granted anonymity to speak freely with Pro Football Network, said the move was surprising for multiple reasons, especially from the Washington side of the trade.
“I was very surprised that Indianapolis was able to get what they did and move his whole contract,” the scout told PFN.
Wentz’s career has crumbled over the past two years. In 2020, his final season with the Eagles, Wentz produced a historically awful stat line as the team missed the playoffs for the first time in four years. Wentz was benched for then-rookie Jalen Hurts, who eventually became the team’s full-time starter last season....
...The scout thinks Wentz’s recent decline makes him an awkward fit for the Commanders, who are looking to upgrade over Taylor Heinicke at QB.
“Not ideal for Washington,” the scout said. “He will upgrade them at the position, but all things considered, it is just tough giving up that much and paying that much for Wentz for his level of play the last two seasons.”
The scout compares Wentz to former first overall pick Jameis Winston, who needed to serve as a backup to Drew Brees with the New Orleans Saints in 2020 before taking back the controls of a QB1 job this past season....
...The scout, whose team is not in the market for a QB, thinks Wentz would have been better off rehabilitating his image — similarly to Winston and Mitchell Trubisky — by taking a step back on a depth chart behind another veteran signal-caller.
Wentz “needed to go somewhere and sit behind a high-level veteran quarterback and play-caller and just re-learn and re-train,” the scout said. “He’s a low-end starter type that has talent but causes headaches and has high-level variances in his play due to his decision-making.”
The Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts pulled off a surprising trade centered around QB Carson Wentz ahead of free agency.
