  • The Draft

The question……. Do the birds draft RB in rounds 1,2,or 3 with the mindset that they let Sanders go next year rather than paying him in a second contract?
Myself I draft a Pierre Strong or Pierce or Robinson in with first pick in round five. Your thoughts ….
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy

The running game is in good hands, IMO we need defense with the first 3 picks, but I expect an offensive weapon like a WR with one of those 3 or maybe the Center from Iowa. Personally I would love to see Strong on this team. To me he looks like a faster Jordan

If somehow they can use a pick to trade back and get a second pick in the 35-45 range I’d absolutely draft Breece Hall.

Part of me wants all 5 of the top DEs to be gone and Jameson Williams but the QBs to be there at 15. Teams will want to move up.

If we could trade back from 15 into the 20s we could get Olave there maybe and Nakobe Dean, the Elam kid from Florida, or maybe Linderbaum and get that second pick in R2 to get Breece Hall or McCreary from Auburn who I think is going to eventually be the best CB in the draft.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

I just have a suspicion they will look to move on from Sanders (or any RB really) before the second contract. Of course they may think Gainwell can replace Sanders after his contract runs out so no need for a high draft pick.
give me a draft like the (Sheppard Lewis Brown) draft with a DE and WR thrown in. Then get a TE and RB in round five.

What round is that crazy assed P from Arizona expected to go ? IMO that position really hurt us last season and a hammer like that would do the trick

Personally, I think using the last pick in the fifth round for a punter would be a good idea. I know someone might go early but there are a couple guys who will be around in the fifth. I actually think the sixth and even the seventh is a good round for picking punters if you have a punter but just want to upgrade but I don't think Siposs is that good and we need to have competition in camp. I would use a fifth.

The kid from Arizona is insanely good, but Stoudt from Penn State was pretty good as well. We didn’t change field position very well last year. We gave away a short field far too often

Its official. We have all lost our shit. We are now tracking punters on a draft thread.

only because ours was like 31 out of 32 last year

Well to be fair the question started with RB but I’d be willing to bet Howie will take a punter to compete with Siposs (sp). It is a need.

These punters don’t want to be drafted I think. They’d rather be a priority free agent and pick.

As long as Howie doesn't pull an Al Davis and use one of our early picks on a P I'm OK with taking someone late. Imagine being a Raiders fan when he used the first rounder on Ray Guy - Philly would have gone nuts!!!!

Oh and as for the question about drafting a RB I want them to sit tight right now with an eye on resigning Sanders. I hate the bouncing as much as anyone but I think the line changes over the last 2 years are at least a part of that. Hopefully they can coach that shit out of him. He's a solid RB and I'd rather put that pick into an OL or another Defensive player. Let's see if he's more productive this year - if he is, resign him. If he isn't we can look at RB next year after we get our QB. This year should be 90% about the defense with a WR and possible TE thrown in. Next year we can look at a RB if needed.

I think the issue is more about how much it costs to resign a RB vs what you pay a draft pick
