    Cowboys cut both backup quarterbacks

The Dallas Cowboys have released both Cooper Rush and Will Grier, leaving Dak Prescott as the only quarter back on the current roster according to the team's official website.

It is possible Rush will be brought back but it looks like the Cowboys may be looking for a better backup plan. Originally an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan, the 28-year-old Rush has been with the Cowboys for four years but has seen little playing time. In 2021 he completed 30-of-47 passes for 422 yards with a 3-to-1 Td to INT ratio.

Grier, originally a third-round pick out of West Virginia by the Panthers in 2019, played through an August groin injury to complete 57 percent of his preseason passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns, mostly against third-string defenses. Grier should find another home in the coming weeks.

Dallas must have a 53rd player that they think they have to protect more than their backup QB or they have a trade on the hook Randolph?
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy
    RIP

They must be trying to protect other players, at least for another week or so, and feel pretty comfortable that they can get the backup QBs to the practice squad. Maybe they get through week 1 by elevating those QBs from the practice squad to the gameday roster, but they will obviously make more moves at some point.

this would be a great time for Dak to burn a piss test. How cool would it be to have Jerry say he has no QBs
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Wouldn't it be fun to grab Rush as a #3.

The Cowboys put together a roster that features one quarterback with no kicker or deep snapper.

What can be dismissed as remarkably shortsighted at first glance is actually shrewd.

The club announced its 53-man roster Tuesday afternoon. Consider it a starting point, not a binding document. The Cowboys leveraged a distinction in the status between players who are waived/released to give them the latitude to make necessary moves in the coming days and once again underscored their commitment to draft and develop.

There are 29 players on this roster — that’s 54.7% for the statistically impaired or indifferent — that have been in the NFL for two full seasons or less. All but one member of the last two drafts classes made this initial roster. The exception is fifth-round pick Damone Clark, who landed on the reserve/non-football injury list after undergoing spinal fusion surgery to correct a herniated disk earlier this year.

Guess I still don’t understand how shrewd it is. Going to have to let those guys go sometime so you have players on opening day. Not sure everyone is lined up looking for Dallas’ bottom three players

To me that just solidifies how safe our 2 stiff QBs will be on our PS LOL!
