Dak Prescott is covered in honey

After the Cowboys’ Week 8 victory over the Rams, Jerry Jones was asked about this week’s matchup with the Eagles. The brash and bold owner of the Cowboys had this to say, “Let’s soak this one up. I don’t want to do anything to poke the bear.” This is what Dak Prescott said when he was told of Jones’ comments:

“I don’t believe what you just said. Pour honey on me, I always say that. If you see me and a bear in a fight, pour honey on me, so you can poke it.”

There’s a lot to unpack here. Let’s start with Jones. He’s been such a great villain for us for decades but this made me like him a little. He’s recognizing how good the Eagles are and he’s showing the correct amount of fear and respect for the better team. That’s called growth, Jerry. It’s a bit shocking and almost sad. Have the Eagles broken his once mighty spirit?
    We broke him.
The metaphor is slightly confusing because the Chicago Bears play in the NFL but he’s talking about poking the Eagles (the big bad “bear”). Prescott took the bear metaphor further, so I’ll go with it. It appears that Dak plans to be in a fight this Sunday with a bear (the Eagles) and he wants someone to pour honey on him so “you can poke it.” Who can poke it? The person pouring the honey? His metaphor is wobbling around like one of his wayward passes. I’m pretty sure he’s saying that he’s not afraid of the Eagles and he hopes to make them mad and hungry, but he doesn’t want to say anything specific to make them mad and hungry.
“I’m not afraid to say that I’m not afraid to piss you off! But I won’t say anything to piss you off.”
Look, I don’t think the Eagles or their fans need extra motivation this week. It’s the effin’ Cowboys and it’s 8-1 vs 7-2. Does Prescott’s bizarre taunt move the needle at all? I say YES. Here’s why: In Prescott’s last 8 games vs the Eagles he is 7-1. He’s thrown for 17 TDs and 4 INTs in that span. His QB rating is 110.3. These are Sam Howell numbers! Prescott clearly thinks he owns the Eagles D and I can’t really argue with him. After the Miami game I was all in on Sean Desai and the 2023 defense, but there are clearly some QBs who can completely dissect them and score at will. When D’Andre Swift didn’t take a knee at the one on Sunday I knew the Commanders would score in less than a minute and make me sweat out an onside kick. They’d been cutting through us like a hot knife through butter for two games this year! That’s how it’s felt vs Prescott in a lot of games lately. Enough. The defense should look at Prescott’s comments as an insult. He doesn’t fear you and he doesn’t respect you. Make that man respect you!! Can we get our first blowout of the season? Enough sweating it out until the final whistle! I want 10 sacks!! I want forced turnovers! I want multiple defensive TDs! Let’s goooo!! And just in case you were wondering, Eagles eat honey.
    Honey is available on Sunday.

Yeah, Dak has killed us in the past. We have to pressure him and Desai can't have his DB's playing too far off the line. This year's Dak is more of a dink and dunk kind of QB.

We need all hands on deck along the DL for this game.

I know the Dallas D is good. But, I am most worried about not getting enough pressure on Dak. This would be a good game for one of Slay's pick 6 specials.

No worries, we are going to dominate them with the running game. Steen is going to show far better than Opeta. They won’t stop our O and we will have enough stops to win

Dak Prescott knows what he and the Dallas Cowboys are walking into with their big showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday.

Sunday will be Prescott's 12th career game against the Eagles and his sixth in Philly, so the rabid fans there are nothing new to him. But Prescott told reporters on Thursday his preparation for a raucous environment such as the one expected this weekend goes all the way back to his college days at Mississippi State.. Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.

"I guess you (can) say having grown up in the SEC, (there were a) lot of different venues and stadiums that you can feel it by the time you get near the stadium," Prescott said, per ESPN.com. "(Fans) eat, sleep, breathe the game of football. The fans' excitement. The atmosphere. The close games. The energy.

"When you walk into Philadelphia's stadium, it's not different. It feels like some of those old Saturday nights."

"Fans are going to get loud," Prescott said on Thursday. "You've gotta make sure your communication is top notch. Then, yeah, then it's fun always getting a win up there."

"Philly fans are serious," Prescott said, per ESPN.com. "They love their team. They're ruthless to the other guys, and if their team isn't doing well, they let them know that, too, know what I mean?
"Not anything that is PG-13, to be honest with you, whether it's language or whether it's driving into the stadium and seeing how the fans give you different signs, even show body parts at different times, or (their) back end."

I want Dak and Jerry to feel this loss and remember it for years to come. I want them to cringe at the thought of playing us. Death by a thousand cuts so if they want to get covered in honey that’s fine. Bring out the fire ants and let’s make sure they leave here regretting opening their mouths and scared to come back.

Yeah, Dak has done well against us lately, but there are some mitigating circumstances.

Last year, the teams split 1-1, each team beating the other team's backup QB.

In 2021, Dallas crushed us twice, but the second one was the last game of the season where we were sitting starters, so he did not face Hurts that game. So two of those games Dak beat Minshew. The first game was game 3 of the season, so much earlier in Hurts' career, but legit -- we fell way behind, and our offense was not good.

2020 Dak was injured. 2019 he split in the Eagles games, both against Wentz. That one loss the Cowboys scored only 9 points, all FGs.

Dak beat the Eagles twice in 2018, both against Wentz. They also beat us the last game of the 2017 season, a 6-0 game against Nate Sudfeld and the rest of our backups. Dak threw 30 passes that game. Eagles crushed Dak earlier in 2017.

So.. in that stretch, Dak is 3-1 against Wentz, 2-0 against Minshew, 1-0 against Nate Sudfeld, and 1-0 against Hurts. That last game was Hurts' 3rd game as anointed starter, and a game where we never ran the ball (total 2 carries to Sanders, 1 to Gainwell) despite run defense being Dallas' weakness, i.e. the most inexplicable game strategy from Sirianni we've ever seen. That was before we embraced the running game and turned around that season. Two of those wins came in season-ending games where the Eagles sat their starters. Basically, the two teams have not faced each other at full strength and a good sense of themselves during Sirianni's tenure, so today should be interesting.

Dallas is very good when they get on a roll, so avoiding turnovers is probably the most important thing. After that I hope our running game finds itself again.
