That ship has sailed. Changing coaching in football rarely works in season. I mean look at what it did to the defense last year, it went from terrible to horrible.

They have issues all over the place. Some big balls decisions need to be made. I think they should bench Slay. His comments and play have not warranted him starting. Let Ringo or Rodgers play out there. At least we are getting younger guys experience. Hurts probably should be benched to. Maddox should see the bench as should CJGJ. They all can ""own up to their mistakes all they want but they keep making them. At some point your past is your past. Its what you can do in the future. Right now Hurts future looks like 2 plus turnovers per game because that is what its averaging right now. That is not going to win games, Slay future looks like getting beat for more TD's, same with CJGJ, Maddox had a tough matchup today because Godwin is so much bigger than he is but that is part of the reason why maybe he needs to sit more.

In other words nobody's job right now including Hurts should be a given. The mistakes have to stop, the penalties have to stop, the missed tackles have to stop, the coverage has to be tighter (I am lookin at you Fangio) the turnovers have to stop and we have to start forcing turnovers on our side. We have forced one fumble the entire year and didn't recover it. We have two INT both by Blankenship. As much as we complain about Hurts turnovers and we should our damn defense never gives the offense a short field because they never turn the ball over.

Yes they are 2-2 but they have not played anywhere near a top 10 team.

Agree changing coaches isn’t good but you can’t sit six or seven starters.
I took over for a guy that got canned one time. First day I gathered the 65 guys and first thing I said was I am not here because things are going good and the reason good old Joe isn’t here is because things are not good yada yada yada.
Anyway they need a shock. They need a wake up call. Maybe not Nick, maybe it should be Fangio but personally I think Nick has to be the scapegoat. Howie or Jeff or maybe just the new HC should go into the locker room and say Nick is gone because you have too much talent to be as bad as you looked. Let’s make sure you okay to your talent level because the season has a long way to go.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy

To me, Hurts really relies on Goedert, Devonta and AJ. If any one of the 3 are missing, then he seems to lose trust in his other receivers.

I also expected a loss today and bet pretty heavy against the Eagles today. But, I certainly did not expect that kind of awful defensive performance.

The good news is that this game did not take an emotional toll. It was a butt kicking from the beginning.

I am not ready to throw in the towel with this coaching staff or group of players. I want to see what happens when our big 3 guys on offense are healthy. Heck, even losing Covey cost us a bit today.

Those guys that were hurt didn’t have one impact on Mayfield walking down the field like it was 11 on 7. They are offensive players.
The offense failing to get off the field didn’t have one impact on Mayfield walking down the field like it was 11 on 7 because he did it the first two series when the players were fresh.
I wholeheartedly agree the players were terrible but there was not a good game plan on either side of the ball and the player motivation was crap

Changing any of the coaches out now just isn't going to do much. You can't change the defensive philosophy (see last year). Not going to change the offensive play calling either. I think Darius Slay has to be looked at as a player who is a shock type move. I mean he is a defensive leader, he gave up the game winning TD against Atlanta, he is not making any plays at all. He is becoming No play Slay. Should have given up another TD in this game guy was open by 5 yards just dropped it. We have some young guys behind him who should be hungry. In other words if Slay can get cut anyone can get cut. Maybe that changes things. I just don't know because I don't think this is all on the players, I don't think its all on the coaches. There is just so many issues, i really don't see this being fixed in this year. It is going to require a coaching staff change and another rebuild.

I hope you aren't refering to Cooper's fumble on that punt! How can a guy who makes a $million a year be that freakin stupid to shove a guy into his own return man?? Where do they find these MORONS???????????????Do these guys ever get fired for being too stupid to live?

And when they didn’t push a guy into him his own player ran into him. Tough day in the punt game.
I understand your take taz. If it is me I make the move. If as you say the season is lost then you can’t do worse.
Orher moves I make is bench Huff and see what Hunt offers. Bench Dean and either get White in there or change up my LBs and see what Trotter can do. Maybe can’t put DeJean in right now because Covey is gone but I have eyes on Maddox

Yep that is the guy I was trying to remember. Not sure who you can rely on to replace Dean but he isn’t producing.

I'm not blaming any coaches for this game. They got their asses kicked today.

Thankfully I wasn't able to watch this beating in real time. I'm willing to extend a degree of grace to Hurts, though I am concerned by the T.O.s and sacks at this juncture of his career. It appears that Hurts just does not trust his WRs not named Smith or Brown. There is a reason that Dotson was available. And Campbell wasn't heavily pursued in FA IIRC. I expected some drop-off in WR play after the injuries, but these guys have been invisible. Is that a reflection of Hurts' play, or theirs?

I too have to wonder if Sirianni may be wearing out his welcome. From the season opener until now, something seems off in their preparation. Everything they do seems like it takes twice the effort that it should, save for Barkley's running and receiving, and Smitty/Brown getting it done.

Fangio: how does the defense that showed up in NOLA just not show up today? And no adjustments? And is Huff overwhelmed mentally out there?

I have to believe that Slay may be slowing down. Mitchell, DeJean, Ringo & Rodgers are the future.

I certainly am. The coaches got their asses handed to them too.

Yea I have to beat up coaches also. Game plan wasn’t good and players weren’t ready. They were better in second half but not much.

To be fair the defense was absolutely shot 10 minutes into that game with that heat and humidity and the Eagles gaining zero yards. I could see them laying a big egg After that emotional game they won last week And let's face it they were shorthanded I think they will play better in a couple of weeks. It would be nice if we had another defensive end other than BG though .

This is kind of my take on things also. Lets be honest regarding the badly shorthanded offense.....

                                First 4 drives.

                                • 3 and out
If the offense was able to generate some offense early on, the defense might not have worn down like that in the heat and humidity. So, while the defense was responsible, so was the offense and special teams.

Get healthy and kick Cleveland's ass.
