  • Training Camp

The common thought is things are pretty set for the birds. Comp for the RG position and safety are the only things happening. Myself I think it will be an interesting camp because there is going to be a lot of competition.
WR1 and 2 are set but who is three. Dotson,Marshall, and Gray are the front runners and should have a good comp but what about Williams the return guy. Can he be a receiver
Davis and Ojomo are certainly quality but who is behind them. Can the big strong kid (Robinson) make the transition to the NFL in year one. He has great potential. And who is going to come through on the outside besides Hunt and Smith. If those two even live up to billing.
Baun’s name ia written in pen but everyone else is in pencil. Myself I won’t be surprised if Dean isn’t able to crack the roster. Campbell Trotter and Mondon will each be trying to be the guy at LB.
Can Jenkins beat out the other two vets for TE3. My guess is yes. Not terribly important until Goedert misses a coule
    games.
Does Ringo beat out Jackson or is DeJean on the outside moving inside on passing downs. If so who is your primary slot guy
All that not to mention the RG.
    Lots of competition and questions

Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy

Who knows? Dean may never come off the PUP list this year.

Safety: The league-wide second-rd pick signing backlog may impact the safety competition. Mukuba may miss valuable time on the field while all of the second-rd picks wait for the guy drafted above them to sign. The hitch is guaranteed money. I believe that one team has given guaranteed money for the first time ever to a second rd pick, and now the rest of them want it. This may open the door to Brown, or a vet acquisition.

WR3: IMO Dotson will emerge as WR3 after competition. Marshall is a threat but has less familiarity with the scheme. Gray is the dark-horse. He could surpass Marshall, if the initial reports are accurate.

DL: I think Robinson will acclimate fairly quickly...or at least I hope so. Hunt, Smith, Ojulari, and the guy from the Pats (Uche?) should be good. Or good enough.

CB: I think Ringo wins the starter job over Jackson. DeJean will rotate in and out at multiple slots, per Fangio. I think if it aint broke, dont fix it. Keep DeJean in the slot. If they go to base defense, rotate him to safety with Blankenship, assuming Mukuba is still acclimating because of the aforementioned second-rd signing thing.

RG: I think Steen finally steps into the starter role. If he shows some consistency, he will start.

LB: Dean may not be ready until late. He may indeed end up out for the year on PUP. Hoping he isnt. I think Trotter gets the nod initially. Campbell and Mondon will factor in.

So these guys want guaranteed roster spots now. What idiot team started that?

This will all work itself out I think. I do like Mukuba as a starter by middle of the season because he has a knack for knowing where to be. That is a big part of Vic's defense. Be in the right spot.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

I think there is a ton of competition. You have competition at linebacker, safety, and right along with fighting for the primary offensive line backups. There is also compet for the number 3,4,5 and maybe 6th spot in the wide receiver rotation. Right now there's no depth in the defensive line at all. I know we use the word "interesting sometimes" I wish I could think of something harsher because they are going to be more like battling or fighting because that's how these players think of it. We might be coming off a Super Bowl but we still have a ton of questions.

If you don't agree with me just tell me what safety on this roster will have this kind of production?

whatever the reason, he's gone and a youngin is gonna need to step up

Safety is my biggest concern going into this season. Makuba still not signed and even when he does, who knows if he’s ready like Q and Coop were. I liked Brown when we drafted him, but every time he’s played safety, he’s had breakdowns that led to big plays for the opposing offense. Nobody else seems great.

it could all work out. But as of today, it’s concerning #1 for me

Sounds like Makuba is now signed. Now let’s go to work.

My concerns: CB2, S, RG, DE (Edge). Also RB depth is a sneaky need. LB should work itself out. We have cap space. I see Howie picking up a CB and DE. Newsome for CB please.

I like the UDFA RB we picked up, I think Dillon better come ready for some competition
