  • Eagles Vs Giants Observations take 2

This game was never really close. The Eagles came out and took care of business as they needed to do.

    1. Hurts- Another really good game. 15-20 180yrds and 4 Tds. Some cracks though. Took too many sacks where he could have gotten the ball out. I think he was trying to for bigger plays. He did fumble. On that Tush Push. Not sure exactly what the officials were thinking (more on those fumbling bumbling crew later)

    2. Barkley - When they can give him a crease he goes for 150. Its really that simple. He did pull something late in the game. Doesn't look real concerning though.

    3. Tank Bigsby - He also went over 100 yards. Really impressed with his get up and go. Now I know why they have promoted him to CB2.

    4. Offensive Line - Best they played all year. A couple of calls hurt them but overall best game in all facets all year. The Sacks in my opinion are much more on Hurts. I thought Toth BTW held his own against a pretty darn good DT in Lawrence.

    5. Elliot - No more misses man 58 yarders are routine now

    6. D line - really active and did a much better job getting Dart on the ground this time. They seemed much fresher than they did coming off a short week the first time.

    7. Officiating - Absolutely putrid from the head officials, the replay officials. Just terrible. Lets recap

    1. Giants first TD, Dean is tackled from behind while rushing the passer. Right up the middle right in front of the officials. No Flag to boot, it results in a TD.
    2. Jalen Hurts fumbles on the tush push. Inexplicably they say his forward momentum was stopped.
    3. A whistle blows right as Elliot is kicking the ball. It wasn't from the stands because it was picked up by the camera mics which are on the officials. No one knows why? No explanation.
    4. Josh Uche strip sacks Jaxson Dart. Very clear its a fumble for some reason the replay reverse one of the one that they got right on the field.
    5. Next play, Mitchel gets beat while hand fighting with Slayton. Slayton does push off but Mitchell is holding him. Should not have been called.
    6. Before the tush push fumble, Jalen Hurts gets the first down and its spotted as a first. They also throw a flag for late hit. The Late hit was close and I am ok with picking that up though it its Mahomes or some others it stands. However they moved the ball back taking the 1st down away. Should have been a 1st down.
    7. I believe it was Bigsby who caught a short pass on the side line. He is pulled down by his ear hole and facemask (either is a penalty) right in front of the official no flag.

There were more many more but these are so egregious its either the officials are just that inept. Or there is some NBA type things happening for those who know.

    8. The Eagles are really deep at linebacker. Seeing Trot Jr coming in and making that Play on Dart late in the game was excellent.

    9. Shout out to the return game. Both Shipley and Gibson really returned well today.

Onto the bye week. 6-2. Through a very difficult part of the schedule. Need to get healthy over the next few weeks.
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

Yes. Need to get healthy. Next 3 games are tough: @Packers, vs Lions, @Cowturds

First win by more than 1 TD this season. Getting the running game going finally was huge.

    Go BRONCOS !

Overall good game with some cracks that can be fixed. Run game was much better. However pass protection still needs work. Communication hasn't been very good as delayed blitz is killing protection. I agree a lot of it is on Hurts looking for big play instead of checking down or throwing it away.

Defense played better than 1st time but still got pushed around a bit in the run game. Gotta clean that up with Josh Jacobs Gibbs and Montgomery up next. Pass rush was better but still need Nolan back. BG hopefully can help. Didn't hear Ringo name called and that's good!

Bigsby looked great and Dillon is probably gone. Hurts played okay but still need him to distribute ball to other receivers.

      Great team win!

Last thing the NFL really has to do something about the officials! They were brutal for both sides! Daboll and Nick have way too much to complain about today. Just a bad bad game by them

I’m going to throw a Patullo in there. The Eagles play calls have changed. Not sure if it is Patullo, Sirianni, or Stoutland but they have changed. From being under center more to presnap movement to heavy packages with Fred Johnson and Latu. You have to run up the gut once in awhile to keep them honest but there were few yards gained there. Nice movement between guard tackle and off tackle runs.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
        Hope is not a strategy

          1. Hurts was awesome indeed. But yes, seems like the Giants rushed without giving him many lanes to escape. He tried a few times. His spin move out of of pressure seems to take him out of the play too long, and does not often work. He had one terrible one where he spun a couple times and still couldn't get rid of it. Bailed out by the 32 yard run on 2nd and 31.
          2. I think after the game Barkley said he could have gone back in, but no need. With two weeks to heal I'm sure he's fine.
          3. RB2, not CB2 -- though an interesting thought . But yeah, I'm sure Dillon will be one of the casualties when we need roster spots for IR folks.
          4. Initially I thought it was an incomplete pass. Then I saw that the ball was knocked out by a helmet earlier. Did not see a good replay which showed both that and the hand.
          5. Heh, yeah. Toth false-started somehow on that play, which made the FG five yards longer -- might have been the difference.
          6. Line got some pressure, though rarely really fast, and gave up scrambling lanes often. But we did get fie sacks as Dart holds the ball himself. We should get Nolan Smith and BG after the bye so hopefully things will look better there.
          7. Officiating was indeed putrid, for both sides. On the Hurts play, he did reach the ball out (guess a fumble is no worse than a stuff though thought he may have had the first down anyways). Then pulled it back, then Burns and Hurts both had hands on it, and it was moving back a little when Burns wrestled it away. Tough call though on replay not sure I'd give Hurts the benefit of the doubt there. But, also thought the spot on the play before was bad -- thought he had the 1st down live (good call to pick up the flag on the sideline hit though). Last week was well officiated, I guess they needed a balance.
          8. I really want to keep Dean but it may be tough given the other players on the roster.
          9. Return game with by *far* their best game of the year. It's been a huge negative in too many games. Coverage was OK too.

As for the schedule, the last three games were the easy part. Back to hard after the bye, for three games, then an easier stretch again. Guess it does get easier for three games after that. The ending stretch will depend greatly on if the Commanders are good by then or not.

I was really concerned about the Cowboys finding their groove but their defense is so putrid, especially their run defense. We're gonna run all over them in a few weeks.

GB and Detroit really is going to be the defining games of this season.

If somehow we can go 2-1 over the next 3 I like where we will be sitting.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Dallas does have some injuries and may have guys back by then. And playing at home vs the road could be a big difference. We don't always punish teams on offense either . But would be nice if they played that bad versus us.

The defense has played with a bit more attitude IMO and I believe Nakobe Dean has brought some swagger. Each of the last 2 games he has delivered hits that you heard. The O has helped tremendously by getting points, but I think Dean may be the defenses heart and soul.
Hurts has been about as close to perfect as a QB can be while staying within the scheme. He hasn’t at any point seemed to lose composure and has made some really nice throws.
I need to rewatch the game, but it seemed like Davis was forcing Dart into some really quick decisions.
Hunt is coming on, his ability to rush and cover is special and it looks like Vic is doing more with him.
Tank Bigsby is a stud back. He hits top speed real quick and he has good vision and punishes people. How nice would it be to run Barkley and allow Bigsby to beat the D into submission.
2 weeks to get healthy and come out swinging. Can’t wait to see how we show after the bye
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

                      A few things from yesterday:

Hopefully they have realized that lining Jalen up under center 20-30% of the time is a great idea. It changes the leverage points in the defense. It also allows for real play action and not just RPO eye candy. Makes it way easier on Toth also.

Fred Johnson as an extra blocker is working too. It widens the front.

Jalen played really well but he still needs to get rid of the ball. At least 3 of those sacks were him hanging onto the ball when he could have gotten rid of it.

For the most part, the Birds did a GREAT job staying in their rush lanes. That is a big part of containing a guy like Dart. You can't get past him. The DL has to rush together to collapse the pocket on him.

Tank Bigsby was a headache in Jacksonville because he thought he should be playing more and clearly the kid has talent. Here, maybe he can accept his role. They have him for next year too. He is signed through 2026.

They should be a lot healthier after the buy and they better be. The Packers look to be very good.

Our schedule is brutal. Just brutal.

Dean certainly is great to have back, but we just beat up two teams that were ravaged with injuries too so let's not get too carried away. Let's see how we look health wise going into Green Bay before we get too excited. At least we don't have to play the Colts this year. Who knew?

2 1/2 game lead over Dallas right now
3 game lead is likely after Wash gets drilled by Mahomes tonight.

Can't ask for a better situation heading into the bye. Just need to get healthy.

Personally I’d like to see 3-0 but that might be a tough ask. I’ll say this though. I don’t know how many of you hear national media vs Philly local but national talking heads give Sirianni absolutely no respect. Any success was Steichen or Moore or Barkley or the OL or Brown or whatever. No respect for anything Sirianni has done.
The birds are 6-2. If they come out of the bye and beat GB and Det Sirianni deserves the accolades for getting the team back on track.
