  • Wentz Done For the Season

Has been playing through a shoulder injury, will have surgery and is done for the year
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Herbstreit is catching a lot of heat for criticizing Wentz as not an alpha male when #1) Wentz was playing so injured and 2) Kirk sucked as a QB.

He deserves the flak. I beat Wentz up for his play but he was grimacing in pain. I don’t ever recall him bitching about a hangnail.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy
      RIP

I had soured on Wentz but I have to tell you what I saw out of the kid Thursday made me do a 180. He kept going back out there. Guy was beat to death and he kept getting up. I have no idea what happened here in Philly. Maybe it was the ACL. Maybe the hit to the head in the playoffs or the back injury. Maybe he was quietly a locker room diva and that got put on steroids when they drafted Hurts. But I will say that SOB on Thursday night kept playing when most QBs would have said I am out. And O'Connell let him take a beating. Like a relief pitcher left out there in mop up. I lost respect for O'Connell NOT making the move to the third stringer.

Wentz should retire now. His rep is in tact with me now.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Wentz has to be one of the most tragic figures in the history of the NFL. Was some of it his own doing? Absolutely, but he also had multiple bad breaks along the way. He carried a pretty average team to the division title in 2019 and that was with a bunch of scrub receivers. Then he gets a cheap shot 5 minutes into his first playoff game.
Every other team he had a chance with have had terrible offensive lines.

Hey, I've been on record as loving the guy and still do. He won us a Super Bowl, how could you not! It was a poor choice of words from Herbstreit, and he would probably take it back if he could.
