I am so sick of this lame defense for behavior of all illegal kinds....

Where did this come from? Not sure, but I was always taught just because others do something illegal or wrong it does not make it right or ok.

I was also always taught one takes pride and honor in doing what is RIGHT regardless of the quick payoff cheating or cutting corners may bring...it is really sad to see people who should know better use this defense and not take responsibility for their mistakes and law/rule breaking.

I was also taught one represents the organization and associates one works with whereever they go and through whatever they do...if Kraft had any integrity, he should have a real heart-to-heart with Belichek and tell him in no uncertain terms he better get his ship in order or he is gone. No one represents my franchise and our organization in this fashion and brings shame to my name. No one.

How do you know Kraft wasn't in on the whole thing?

If that is true, Leif, then the league has a real problem on its hands IMO...if the corruption and "ends justify the means" philosophy comes from the very top, the whole organization is bad.

that's all I hear up here in New England. Everyone does it

The NFL competition committee is already pissed about hearing that one. Holmgren went off on it in his press conference by saying "everyone does not do it" "It's a rule and everyone should play within the rules"

Good for Holmgren...he is dead right IMO.

Now we hear claims the Pats were also recording AUDIO calls vs. the Jets...does everyone else do that too? NOT!!!

Holmgren is right, HOWEVER I read that Jimmy Johnson said that he tried it and didn't think it was useful. Jimmy Johnson hasn't coached is quite a while, cameras have come a long way. The only point I would make is that you'd have a blindspot to think that it doesn't happen, probably more often than we think.

Madden just mentioned it during the Patriots-Chargers game that he never bothered even thinking about it only because he had enough to think about during a game that he simply wouldn't have even wanted the distraction.

Of course others do it...IF others do it, that is ON them and hopefully the league will catch and punish them too as they deserve. Even if they do not catch them, those coaches and/or teams should be ASHAMED and stop themselves. If they want to sell their souls in an attempt to win, so be it...but if they have a shred of dignity and integrity left they should know they are wrong and are tarnishing not only themselves, their organization, but the entire league and sport.

That is why people like Holmgren get so pissed...it reflects badly on THEM and makes people doubt Holmgren too...he dislikes someone else's unethical behavior causing him problems...and then their attempt to explain it away by smearing his good name.

It's the defense of the eighth grader, "Everyone else does it why can't I?"

I guess "because its against the rules" isn't good enough......for Bellicheat.

I wasn't trying to make it sound like a defense of Belichik and/or his tactics, I'm simply saying I'm not surprised that it happens. Not many teams have been caught cheating and if the idea that it could be used was known to Madden while he was a coach shows that it's been going on for a long time.
