  • How did you all let this one slip by?

Ashley Fox of the Inky, whom so many of you recently defended, did an article today on the Eagles and the loss of Harbaugh. Buried in her comments was the tantalizing comment quoted below. Was she off the wall or is she giving us an acknowledgement that the Eagles are on the same path as their fans in their evaluation of what is needed and where? C'mon you Fox defenders, tell me why I should believe her, and feel real good about our direction.

"While it might seem that chaos is occurring all around him, Reid is fairly content with where the Eagles are headed, all things considered. A week ago, he was prepared to lose his No. 1 personnel man, general manager Tom Heckert, to Atlanta, but didn't. There apparently has been acknowledgment internally, if not yet publicly, that the team needs another prominent wide receiver, another speedy pass rusher to compliment Trent Cole, a pass-catching tight end, and another cornerback who potentially could be a starter."

I saw that too Dutchie. It's pure speculation but at least she didn't use the old "unnamed sources" to hide behind.

FD, I call it --- felony by adjective! (used to call it Adjectorial suicide) Can I get a TM here?

The use of the word chaos, the use of "prepared" (like it's some sort of thing that only would happen to the Eagles) and of course she knows what goes on and how prepared or not AR was to lose Heckert! And the use of the ever popular "acknowledgment internally, if not yet publicly,"---- which translates to "un-named sources" or "sources close to the team" or "just pure speculation with no foundation in fact at all and I just made it up"----- take your pick!

MD, thanks for such a good laugh after being so depressed with today's results. I needed that.

Re: How did you all let this one slip by?

I can see being excited about this since Heckert and Andy Reid both appeared to publically deny many of those needs.

The real tirck is upgrading those areas.

Bringing in a receiver better than Brown and Curtis will be tough. There aren't many. And the ones everyone is talking about are not 2008 free agents.

The TE is easy to fix for 2008. Simply franchise LJ and promise him not to do it in 2009. That is probably a win-win. He didn't impress any potential suitors with his play in 2007. Perhaps he can do it in 2008. I'd be very surprised if thos doesn't happen. I don't think the Eagles would put a Transition Tag on him. If they did that, they might have to match someone's long term contract offer to him. And I don't think they want to give him a long term contract.

Even Heckert admitted that we need another corner. And we know the team stocks up on DEs. They just don't have a lot of luck with the ones they get. (McDougle, Kearse, Howard)

Re: How did you all let this one slip by?

Well other than WR, the other needs are pretty obvious. Last year's guys lost their jobs at DE and nickel corner. TE was clearly the worst position on the field last year and the nominal starter is a free agent that isn't worth keeping. It's hardly a surprise the FO think DE, TE, and CB need to be addressed.

It's interesting, though, to hear an acknowledgement (if it's real) that the Eagles need more at WR. I've felt all along that they wouldn't make any real moves there.

Bill Parcells once said, "Just because you know that there's a problem, doesn't mean that you can fix it right away."

So the Eagles are aware that we have these problems -- great. Will they fall all over themselves to bring someone else in, so much that we overpay someone who can't produce? I'd say no. Not their style, and they might mess themselves up worse in the process.

Case in point, I heard somewhere that TE's are thin in FA and the draft...if that's true, they might just have to stand pat with Celek, or try to keep LJ (I'd be surprised though). They'll get reamed by the fans for "doing nothing"...even though refusing to jump the gun would be their best move, for now......

Until the Jints knock out the last NFC East team, I need a bullet to bite on...........
