  • (OT) "Plaxico is a top 5 WR"

My God! I am living in NYC and I drive around a lot in the area, so I get to listen to a lot of radio during the day. And man, there is no one who is more of a homer than Max Kellerman on 1050 (ESPN). Anytime anyone signs with the Mets or Yankees, he says you "could make an argument that he's the best player at his position" ... then just before the Giants game he says that Brian Westbrook is one of the most overrated running backs in football ... and that he's comparable to Leon Washington, with the exception that Leon Washington just doesn't get the opportunities that Westbrook gets.

And of course this week, the topic of the day is Plaxico Burress. You see guys, Plaxico Burress is apparently one of the top 5 WRs in all of football (according to pretty much every talk show host in NYC). Yep, right along side of Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Steve Smith, and Randy Moss. Sorry Reggie Wayne, Anquan Boldin, Housh, TO, Brandon Marshall, and Hines Ward ... apparently you're not as good as Plax.

Oh, and if it wasn't windy, the Giants would have handled Philly no problem. Had no idea until I heard it on the radio.

Sorry guys .. this is the NFCCG week, but I needed to vent (more like vomit) after hearing this garbage all day.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's top 5 overall. But, in that 10-20 yard range he is as good as anyone. The Giants offense is not the same without him in there. Period. He made a huge difference against the Eagles. I told J-bird that I didn't think the Giants could beat the Birds without Plax. They're 0-2 against them since he went out.

I'm glad he's out, and I hope he goes to jail, which is what he deserves, because although he's not top 5, he has given the Eagles fits for years.

I know, it was really unbelievable how that wind died down EVERY time the Eagles had the ball. We were damn lucky all day long!

Kellerman has spent many a show waxing poetic about the greatness of the Knicks' Eddy Curry as well. So consider the source.
Your confidence in your team is high, but rest assured, you will suffer humiliation when the sports team from my area defeats the sports team from your area.

EB - I don't dispute that Plax is a great WR who kills the Eagles. But this whole top 5 nonsense is just, well, nonsense. It's like everything I hear on the radio here though ... everyone who plays for NY is clearly one of the best players in the league. It's annoying.

I mean honestly, would I rather have Plaxico or Boldin? It's not a hard choice at all ... like shooting fish in a barrell! Or in Plax's case...

The other thing I remember him stating is that this season can't be all that much of a failure since they have beaten all of the remaining teams in the playoffs. I mean, really?

I agree with you, and I'd definitely take Boldin over him, as well as few other guys not named TO. But, I think you have to look at him as a member of the Giants, with Eli at QB, and in that circumstance he is as valuable as any WR in the league.

Whether or not he is a top 5 or top 10 WR is debatable. But he definitely matches up well against our shorter defensive backs.

I hate Plaxico but the guy is a true stud. Just look at the Giants without him.

I think this says more about how underrated Leon Washington is than how overrated Westbrook is. I've been saying for a couple of years that Washington is the next Westbrook. Washington will be a STUD in the coming years once he shakes off the 'can't-carry-a-full-load' idea.
