The Jets considering Plaxico according to NY Daily News...

The New York Daily News suggests the Jets will "get serious" about signing Plaxico Burress if he manages to avoid jail time and a lengthy suspension.

Plax's June 15 court date will be telling, as we'll have a better idea on his chances of avoiding jail time during the season. Even if his attorneys find a way to delay the sentence until next winter, Plax still faces a potentially lengthy suspension.

There's no way he avoids jail time, IMHO. The law is clear: carry a handgun in NYC and go to jail. The DA wouldve cut a deal by now if one was to be had. Plax is a high-profile target and has no defense. The DA smells blood in the water and a chance for his 15 minutes in front of the microphones.
    Buh-bye Plaxico.

If he avoids jail, then we might as well take the law off the books and close the courthouse....and if the commish does not suspend him after he gets out of jail, then he might as well resign and join the UFL

Burress should NOT play this year

I've read that about 75% of the gun charges in NY get plea-bargained down to a misdemeanor. And therefore, there is no jail time. What Burress has going for him is that he didn't brandish the weapon, and he didn't use it to commit a crime like robbery. What he has going against him is that he has a high-profile and will generate a lot of press.

If he does get it plea-bargained down to a misdemeanor, that might influence the length of his suspension from the NFL. He might wind up with a 4-game suspension instead of a 1-year suspension.

I wouldn't count him out totally in 2009. But I surely don't wish him the best.
