  • ProFootballWeekly: D.C. Rankings (McDermont named #1)

Wow, there's some high praise. "...might be better than Johnson..." This article came at an ironic time, when this team's defense sh!t the bed.

    http://www.profootballweekly.com/201...e-coordinators

    1. Sean McDermott / Eagles — Despite suffering some major injuries at middle linebacker and having to get by with long-in-the-tooth Jeremiah Trotter, the Eagles' defense has remained very formidable. SCOUT'S TAKE: "(McDermott) is a rising star, now. I think a lot of people expected the Eagles to fall off after (former defensive coordinator) Jimmy Johnson passed away, but this kid clearly paid attention. He was with Jimmy 10 years, sitting at the corner of the table eating crumbs and absorbing it all. In some ways — with how creatively he finds ways to bring pressure — I think he might be better than (Johnson). He's got a great feel (for play-calling)."

Well I think they better look at the O's numbers first, not sure they didn't fall off defensively, just produced more offensively.

Evidently, that reviewer did not watch last Sunday's game.

I posted in another thread that JJ 's defenses got smacked around once or twice or ten times. It happens. I don't think you can judge him completely based on one season; especially one where the D went through plenty of injuries. The D needs work and #1 may be a little lofty but I wouldn't be too anxious to throw McD away.

I think McDermott proved that he can do the job. It's easy to forget that this is the first times he's ever been in charge and the D really played well considering all the injuries this year. Having said that, ranking him as the #1 DC in the league after only a single season is extremely premature. One of the things that made JJ so special was the way he was able to field a solid D year in and year out. Consistency will be the standard I use to compare McDermott to Jimmy and that's obviously going to take a while before we have enough info to compare the two.

In all seriousness, and despite the debacle that just happened, I don't think we could have asked for any more than he's given us. He has a patchwork defense with lots of injuries and he's kept the defense serviceable or better most weeks.

I agree with most of the positives recited here.....BUT....The ranking is absurd.
