  • Just watched one-on-one drills at PE.com

    http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/mu...64&play_clip=y

Catching up on some training camp footage, this clip has a nice long video of one-on-one DL vs. OL drills. Some thoughts:

    - Brandon Graham appears twice on the video and both times he blows right past his man (King Dunlap from the DE spot, Mike McGlynn from the DT position.) One of the 'knocks' on Graham on draft day was his short arms, but when you watch him you see he actually uses that to his advantage. You know how scouting reports say things like 'uses hands well'? Graham's shorter arms can move quicker, swatting away the blocker's arms before they can get into position. Graham has strong instincts on how to gain leverage on his opponent. I cannot wait to watch this kid in preseason. I think he'll be our starting LDE week one.

    - Daniel Teo-Nesheim had a mixed bag, getting blocked twice, then winning his battle on the third try. You can see the effort, but the physicality just isn't quite there. He's going to need a year in the weight room, I'm afraid.

    - Ricky Sapp seemed to get blocked pretty easily. He's tall and slender and really doesn't look like he has the beef for DE.

    - Daryl Tapp passes the eyeball test, at least. Seems like a solid, strong guy.

    - Undrafted rookie OT Austin Howard was the best-looking blocker out there, by far. A very impressive performance, going up against veterans like Daryl Tapp and Trent Cole. He's a tall guy with long arms and did a good job getting his hands on his man. Watch for this guy, he could have Dunlap's job by roster cuts.

    - Fenuki Tupou is a guy I've had my eye on. Did a nice job on one play, but then got beat badly by Tapp on another. He's a big guy and looks real strong, but seems to struggle with leverage and footwork.

Thanks, IMK! Keep passing along the observations!

i love watching those one-on-one drills with OL against DL.

graham is the goods, there's no question about it. can't wait to see him in action.

i love the setup with graham and parker on one side, and cole and tapp on the other.

also, jeff owens looks very strong in these drills, he plays with serious force and leverage.

the o-line is very concerning, though. howard may be the primary backup at tackle this year. dunlap has to go. i also have hopes for topou, and would love to see him move past MJG into the primary backup spot at guard.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!

I agree with IMK on all accounts, even though I have only seen the 1-on-1 footage over the past few week or so (I have watched them all) !

I don't know what to think of Ricky Sapp. He is definately quick. But, there is just no way that he lines up as a DE in the NFL right now, without adding some major strength. Sapp seems to get manhandled by every OL in camp and ends up on the ground 1/2 the time. Hopefully he shows enough to land a spot on the PS, where the trainers can work with him for a full year. The potential seems to be is there, because of the speed and quickness.

Teo-Nesheim seems to be closer to an NFL caliber DE than Sapp. But, that is not saying all that much.

Graham looks great. But, there is too little to go by so far.

Fokou at DE.......I bet this is a short-lived experiment.

Trent Cole is freaking awesome (as if there was any question).

Tapp seems to be a serviceable backup.

P.S.-Howard has been a shocker. He does indeed look like one of the more polished OL. Can he keep it up ?

Don't sell Sapp short yet. I think he's best suited as a joker type. A down lineman is not his cup of tea.

And, he certainly has room on his frame to grow. But right now, I hate the thought of some monster lineman leading a sweep in his direction

Normally I hate preseason. But, with all the turnover, I cannot wait for the games this year.

pliny - i think this will be a nice year - perhaps a wildcard birth - but I think Green Bay beats us in week 1. I think they are going to be the class of the NFC this year.

Oh, and one more note. Trevor Laws had a couple of nice wins. I have no faith in Laws whatsoever, but I can see why he's getting the Spads treatment. I caught a glimpse, at least, of the kind of player he could be.

It's not taking Graham long to assert himself on the field, the Kid's got a major league motor. I realize that film wasn't against the T's Peters or Justice but with Cole and Graham starting at DE that front four looks alot better. I agree that the OL is the weak link at this point. Plenty of time to get things straight but I'd sure have the FO on the phone with Mawae.
