"I just think we had too many veterans that had been there before (McDermott) had been named 'DC,'" Brown said. "You had guys that had been there with Jim, who was like a grandfather to them." Still, Brown said he was surprised to hear McDermott had been fired in Philadelphia, where he had worked in a variety of positions before Andy Reid became the Eagles coach. Even with the injuries and red-zone struggles during 2010, Philadelphia was fourth in the league in takeaways and 12th in total defense for a second consecutive season. "They didn't do that bad. They had rookies all over the place, and they still had a good defense," said Brown, who lives on Lake Wylie. "I did not see it coming. Because you're talking about a football team that was pretty good, went to the playoffs and could have easily won (in) the playoffs," Brown added. "But change is good. We all get fired sometimes. And everything happens for a reason."
