Woman admits to Eagles ticket scam

A Massachusetts woman, who bilked $3,100 from an Upper Dublin businessman in a Philadelphia Eagles season ticket scam, Tuesday paid partial restitution to the victim.
Samantha Brandy Miller, 20, will have to pay the remaining $1,600 in restitution during the three-year probation sentence she received after pleading guilty to theft charges in Montgomery County Court.
The theft was reported to Upper Dublin police on Sept. 2, 2009, by Joseph Grande of Communications Graphics Inc. in Fort Washington.
Grande on Aug. 28, 2009, responded to a craigslist posting on the Internet concerning Eagles’ season tickets for sale. The seller, who identified herself as Samantha Miller, and Grande negotiated a $3,100 for the purchase of the tickets.
Grande agreed to overnight a business check in that amount to Miller at Hotel 57, a New York City hotel where Miller claimed she worked, and Miller agreed to send the tickets after she received the check.
Although Miller’s check was cashed, no tickets were forthcoming.
An investigation revealed that Miller did not work at the hotel and was not a registered guest but that she had several packages delivered to the hotel. The hotel’s bell captain then turned over the packages to Miller, who walked in from the street.
Using information Miller provided to cash the check in New York City, authorities were able to track her to Massachusetts and match her driver’s license photo with bank surveillance photos of the woman who cashed the check.
