Top Ten Best Eagles Draft Picks - #9 Jeremy Maclin

I won't lie, it's early to pick this guy as one of the top draft picks of the Andy Reid era... but I chose him for two reasons. For one, the early returns on the pick are great and two, there were only seven other guys that I felt confident in calling better picks at this point.

    Jeremy Maclin - 2001 - 1st round

In some ways, you might think Maclin falls under our "Mike Patterson Problem" that I talked about in the first post. The first round pick that lives up to expectations. While it is true of Maclin, I'd say he's a more notable success so far given the bust rate of first round WRs, which is significantly higher than most positions.

Maclin seized a starting job almost immediately and hasn't let go. He caught 55 passes and four TDs in his rookie season and followed that up with a 70 catch, 10 TD season. He caught more passes and TDs than his much higher profile teammate, DeSean Jackson. Just to put into perspective how productive he's been this earlier in his career, only five players scored more TDs in a season before their 23rd birthday than Maclin did last year. He was tied for 6th in the NFL in TD receptions.
