  • Sign Dixon

With all this talk about the defensive failure this season, I don't think it's just a coincidence that the best DT on our team didn't play this season. Having a big DT that eats up space and is double teamed constantly helps to free up those undersized LBs that we put on the field year after year. I'd hate to see the Eagles let him walk.

According to Spads the other day, Dixon showed up to camp last offseason rather out of shape. Of course, this could be typical reindeer games..........

Yeah, whatever that means. I haven't seen too many "ripped" DTs over the last 20 years.

Dixon is a good player, but both Jenkins and Patterson are better than him as complete DT. Dixon is a Hollis Thomas-type who is very good vs the run and we definitely need that, but he is not our best DT.

Speaking of Jenkins, might we lose him as well? ...

The Philadelphia Eagles signed defensive end Cullen Jenkins to a five-year $25 million contract in the offseason. On the first day of the new league year, the Eagles will owe Jenkins a $5 million roster bonus, and right now it looks like they’re not sure if they’ll pay it. If the Eagles decide to not pay Jenkins, he would then become a free agent and the Eagles wouldn’t have to take any type of salary cap hit. They would also then save $7.75 million in cap room. The added cap room will help the Eagles sign wide receiver DeSean Jackson to a new deal. The one team that would really be interested in getting Jenkins back, would be the Green Bay Packers. It seems they regret letting him go in free agency, since they had the money to pay him the $25 million contract that the Eagles gave him. As we get closer to the offseason, Jenkins will be someone to keep an eye on, since he might be one and done in Philly and on his way back to Green Bay.

Well isn't that just special. We finally get a decent DT and now we don't want to pay him. And they are thinking of signing the guy who torpedoed this season? Give the money to 6'5'' Vincent Jackson instead of to another little runt who is now afraid to go over the middle.

So Jenkins is gone due to a contract clause
Patterson is coming off of Brain surgery
Laws and Landri are free agents
Dixon is a restricted free agent

That is our entire defensive tackle corp. I actually think more than likely they keep Jenkins and cut Patterson (4.3 mill in savings), resign Landri and Dixon and draft another DT in the draft.

First I heard this anywhere. This should be bigger news if true. He played to my expectations this year. Hard to believe they'd let him go.

It's not news YPCM, just speculation based on numbers. But it is worthy of discussion......considering his contract situation and cap hit, would you keep him for that price?

Personally, I'm a fan. I like Jenkins and I want him here as part of our future. It's a good chunk of coin, and of course I don't have to take into consideration what we are paying him, and what else the Eagles might want to do with that money.

It was sorta kinda written as if there was some fact to it...

...right now it looks like they’re not sure if they’ll pay it...
What or who "looks like" they're not sure if they'll pay it? Is he just watching the expression on Howie's face?

Yeah, I don't know what that's based on. But we knew that he was potentially here on a one year deal when they signed him. I just hope they keep him around.

Have to agree with those that want to keep him. He played well this year and maybe somebody like him with a little championship blood is worth an extra coin or two since we don't seem to have any leaders on that defense.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                        Hope is not a strategy

I think I missed something. Where did this some from? And what are they basing "...right now it looks like they’re not sure if they’ll pay it" on? I think Jenkins had a pretty good year and I'd think he did as well as the Eagles were expecting. The FO generally won't let players go solely for cap reasons.

I'd be as interested in re-signing Landri as Dixon, even though they are different. Laws is the FA DT I think they should just let walk.

I would definitely keep him. The only way I wouldn't is if they are using the money to seriously upgrade the LB position. But they can extend DRC and let Asante go to free up more money.

Lot of questions on DT right now.

I'm for signing Dixon to a reasonable contract and keeping Jenkins. Hope Cedric Thornton is ready to step up.
