  • Maclin in Week 2

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin's status is in question for the home opener against Baltimore after he sustained a hip flexor strain and a hip pointer in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Cleveland Browns.

"As you know with hip pointers, those things hurt you a lot more the next couple of days than they do when they actually happen," coach Andy Reid said.

Reid said he needs to wait to see how Maclin feels in the next couple of days before determining whether the Eagles must make a roster move. They have only five receivers on the roster, and Riley Cooper is still out while recovering from a broken collarbone. The Eagles are bringing in Mardy Gilyard for a visit on Tuesday in case a move must be made, according to a source. The Eagles waived Gilyard on Aug. 31.

Maclin received medical attention three times on Sunday, and twice he left the field. He said after the game that he had hip and leg issues. Maclin still led the Eagles with seven catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.

"He battled through it," Reid said. "You have to give him credit for that. He battled through it and got himself through the game but he's awfully tender today."

    A plague of penalties

The Eagles were penalized 12 times for 110 yards on Sunday and could often be seen raising their hands in disgust at some of the calls from the replacement officials. Reid did not think the players' frustration affected their performance.

"I would tell you that you see guys raising their hands and doing that - I saw that from both teams and throughout the league," Reid said. "You don't need to do that. You need to just play the game. Those guys are doing their job and doing it to the best of their ability, and you need to go do your job and do it to the best of your ability and let myself take care of the officials. You take care of playing."

Reid said the holding penalties that plagued the offense were "good calls."

    Ryans works a full shift

All the speculation last week about DeMeco Ryans rotating with the other linebackers did not come to fruition. Ryans, the Eagles' marquee offseason acquisition, followed an uneven preseason with a standout season opener. He was on the field for 60 of 62 plays, coming off the field only in the dime formation.

Reid said that Ryans was not a three-down linebacker with the Houston Texans last season, so the Eagles wanted to prepare for all possibilities. But Sunday's game was evidence that Ryans can play in both running and passing situations.

"You get into a full game and you haven't done it for a while, so you want to make sure that you have all of your bases covered," Reid said. "So who knows as far as what goes on in the future, and we'll see how it works. I'll tell you that he did a good job and played well."

    Few snaps for Graham

The Eagles had five defensive ends active on Sunday: Jason Babin, Trent Cole, Phillip Hunt, Darryl Tapp, and Brandon Graham. Two pairs of ends rotated, leaving Graham as the odd player out. Graham played only four snaps, evidence that the 2010 first-round pick is fifth on the depth chart.

"We were trying to roll them the best we could," Reid said. "[Graham] actually had a couple of nice snaps in there where he pressured the quarterback and did a good job."

    Extra points

Wide receiver Jason Avant has a bruised wrist, safety Jaiquawn Jarrett has a shoulder strain, and cornerback Curtis Marsh has a hamstring strain. . . . DeSean Jackson will present a $50,000 check to the Wounded Warrior Project at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on Tuesday.

They went light by keeping Cooper instead of PUPing him and it's going to bite them in the ass. That Hilyard kid looked good and got cut. Is McNutt ready? Don't know. But that kid Hilyard kid could at least get deep. Maybe we need a big guy like McNutt to go over the middle. With Maclin hurt and also Avant (wrist) hurting, we're in trouble there. I hope Andy just doesn't go out and bring Hall back!

I agree that Gilyard should have made the team with Cooper unavailable early. Gilyard makes the most sense, plays the most like Maclin of any of the guys either on the PS or the final cuts, including Chad Hall.

Only question is who they cut. Presumably it is Menkin or Sims or Jarrett, but Jarrett played a key role on special teams, they traded for Sims and the o-line depth ain't great. I still say cut Brian Rolle.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!

I think that cut the guy that they know that they can bring back in a week or two. Probably Menkin. Safeties are at a premmium these days.
