  • Kelly and staff

I'm guessing here that the Dc is a known factor to Kelly or he wouldn't be having these other guys hired and walking around Senior Week with Eagle ID's.

I'm assuming he and the new DC have a deal ..... unless he really is gonna stick his DC with his (Chips) choices and I don't think that is true for a minute.

So can we assume/guess/opine that it's somebody on the Ravens or 49's?

It would see that unless they are, the question would be to why wait and not announce the DC.

Or is there another plausible reason not to announce the new DC now?

    Thoughts?

Agreed MD. And i am good with it.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

It was confirmed today on KFFL that Shurmur is the OC & is with Kelly in Mobile this week for the Senior Bowl.
On the D side of the ball, the name I keep hearing is the SF DB's Coach, Ed Donnatelli. He brings plenty of NFL experience and IMO would be a solid choice. To have both OC & DC's with plenty of NFL experience sounds like a good move for Rudy(am I the only one that thinks Kelly look like Rudy?).
If Kelly really wanted Smart out of Bama IMO he would have already made that decision. Now he has to wait until after the SB. Book it, the DC will be Ed Donnatelli.
Just give me ONE before I go!

The Eagles said over the weekend that they are not going to identify anyone they hire until the staff is complete. They very well may have hired a DC but won't make it official until the rest of the staff is in place. Not sure I agree with this approach but I'm just a peon....

Yeah, I don't get the idea of getting everyone hired before making any announcements. Seems strange. It might well be someone from the Ravens or 9ers that are on tap, tho I am not that hot on Donatelli. Could very likely be him. But with Chip being the "forward thinker" that he is, I would expect he might favor a guy who had more college defensive experience if he sees these spread offenses as being the new trend. Makes sense to bring in a guy who is used to, and knows how to defend them.

That said...then would he have hired an old schooler like Schurmur as his OC? This whole thing is confusing......

I believe the DC is either one of the hires at the Sr Bowl or in the SB.

I am pleased to see Shurmur return, but disappointed we couldn't find an experience DC.

I love the philosophy that Kelly keeps putting out there that he doesn't need a bunch of assistants that think like him or know the same as him. He wants to hear different views...which goes with his innovative thinking. I use to always say this to my superiors when they complained about my differing views.

Grantham would be a good blend of NFL & college experience. His defenses always rank well in college so I believe he's doing something right!

Yo Bob. I spent the holidays in VA and Jersey. Got to tailgate twice and go into one game...I was happy with a loss...for the draft. Back in Brasil for several more months. Thank God for the rain...cools us off each day.

Reuben Frank is, indeed, reporting that the Eagles have said they will not announce any more coaches until they are all hired "because they are a team, so they will be announced as a team." So the DC may not be someone in the play-offs, the Eagles are just being kind of weird.

I say it's weird because a number of these "new coaches" are walking around with ID badges at the senior bowl.

It bothers me that our DC is not going to evaluate defensive players at the senior bowl. Kelly is a tremendous offensive innovator that should turn over the defense to people that actually know how to stop offenses. I'm glad he's there though. I just hope he hasn't fallen in love with some PAC 10 guys and forgets that the real football is played in the SEC on the defensive side of the ball.

Well if the DC is on either the Ravens or 49'ers... not much can be done. Also maybe the DC is coaching in the SR. Bowl and will be announced after the game.

I dunno, but I gotta believe the DC was involved in all these decisions so far.

All that makes sense MD. If he's actually coaching there, that's a bonus for sure. If he's busy at the SB, that's not so good. I keep thinking of years back when the Birds stole Charlie Garner because he loved him at the Senior Bowl. I hope something like that happens again!
