Eagles planning running back committee with McCoy, Brown

Pat Shurmur, Chip Kelly’s new offensive coordinator, said Monday that he plans to give both LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown a generous number of carries moving forward and said he thinks in general, offenses are more effective with two running backs in the mix, Reuben Frank of CSN Philadelphia reports.

McCoy, the Eagles’ 2011 Pro Bowl tailback, managed only 840 yards in 12 games in a concussion-shortened 2012 season. Brown had games of 178 and 169 rushing yards when McCoy was hurt but lost three fumbles in those two games.

Can they co-exist? Shurmur says no question about it.

“I think it’s important that you use more than one running back,” Shurmur said. “It’s a long season, and a guy can run out of gas quickly.

“If you have guys who are different, you can use them in different ways, and you try to play to their strengths. I think that’s important.

I’ve always believed there’s a place on the roster for two good running backs. You have your starter, but the other guy needs to play so they can all get through the season.”

Good thing I'm picking 1st in my fantasy draft & I'll take A.P. Last year I had McCoy & he fizzled bigtime. I think from an NFL standpoint it makes alot of sense. Two really good backs.....as long as Duce can teach Brown to hold onto the damn ball!
Just give me ONE before I go!

In fantasyland, AP is due for a big drop, think MJD, Turner, and Portis etc.

Plenty of time to think about WCPhan but IMO A.P. will come swingin in 2013. The guy is a frickin machine. If not, Foster is a nice fallback.

I hope someone in my league does that, then I can take Kapernick or McCoy.

I'll be targeting McCoy early and often in my drafts this year.

You guys should consider going for a top QB early in the 1st and looking at a guy like Richardson in the 2nd. I did that last year and won both of my leagues with Brady, Richardson and MJD, and Julio Jones as my primary guys.
