  • Geno Smith, QB, Philadelphia Eagles?

I am not saying it will happen but I want you to change your perception on whether you'd "like the pick" or not.

    Try this perspective.

Chip Kelly is about to put his reputation and entire system/scheme to task on the biggest stage there is. He has lit it up at all levels and has been viewed even by NFL leaders as a visionary.

That doesn't guarantee success BUT if Chip Kelly and Howie Roseman are clear that Geno Smith is the best choice going forward and they are clear that he is the guy they want to invest in to run this high octane offense - then I have to be onboard - simply because Chip Kelly's career in the NFL and Howie Roseman's most critical "on an island" draft would be heavily invested in Geno.

This would not be a decision made lightly. It would be made as one that is clear to Kelly and Co. that he's the guy to move forward with and he can do it.

That's why...I think Geno Smith will not be an Eagle. Kelly and Roseman do not want to tie their ship to this guy...That's my guess.

And if they do? I am confident and will be behind it.

Well, a lot of people have tied their ship to the wrong guy. I'll be here, I'll be cheering him on, I'll be hoping like hell he becomes the idol of Philadelphia, but he (and they) are going to have to prove it. I just see no reason to believe that Geno Smith will be a top flight NFL QB. If he is I will gladly admit that I was wrong
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy
    RIP

Where in the hell have you been Big Guy? Hope all's well with you & the young family.
Major buzz going around that Birds WILL take Geno Smith. Since he's owned the team Lurie has only gone to two private workouts. First time was in '99 to see McNabb. The second time was a trip to Morgantown this year to see Geno. Trust me, they WANT this guy & he will be there at #35. Personally, I'd prefer we take Cyprien but Smith does make sense. He sits this year behind Vick, maybe two years. If this is the guy Kelly wants then I'm onboard.
If they take Geno where do you think he'll get his cheesesteaks? Pretty hard to walk across the street to Pat's when your name is lit up in neon!
Just give me ONE before I go!

Ha ha. The face of Geno's.

I've been raising a 1 year old, 3 year old and working hard. Living the dream. What's left of it in America.

Loving Lane Johnson. This team has lacked the toughness and heart that a guy like Johnson appears to bring. I'm excited for that kind of ball.

I would like Cyprien right here as well. He has a reputation as a bad dude who will punish people and plays hard. We need that badly.

Zero interest in Geno, but of course, I'm not the decider. If I was, I'd be looking hard at this guy:

That's the thing LT. I think Kelly is smarter than us. He probably is seeing someone he likes (might be Geno) and if he wants him - he'll get him. If it was EJ Manuel - then they will grab a corner/safety.

              no to Geno
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I'd see what I could get from the Jets to swap picks. They are desperate.

I'm with VT here, trade down a little and grab an extra pick. If they play it right they can get two seconds for their spot tonight. Use them to grab a couple of solid players on defense.

Few Geno stats - 38 fumbles in college. What is he gonna do when a big and fast guy hits him?

We've all talked about his average throwing distance.

What happened during the season and last night is not something coaching can fix. The game went to his head and his last 5 games were nowhere near his first 5 and last night he was not coming tonight becasue he was upset. He is a kid, I know, but we don't want a whiner.

I get your point, BP....I knew only a smidge about McNabb (grandpa was a huge Syracuse fan/alumni) and had to trust that Reid/Modrak knew what they were doing...and it panned out well so sure, if Chip/Roseman really believe in him and choose him at 35 I would be on board as well...I hope they do not since I think the D needs more help and am not sold on Smith as a QB, but they definitely know alot more than any of us and I think Chip's system/coaching would be a good spot for QB development

Wrong team in green. Good move for the Jets whose QB situation is much worse than ours

Geno Smith under heavy 'scrutiny in league circles'

It's like the pre-draft process never ended for Geno Smith. Fresh off the New York Jets quarterback's decision to fire his agents, Smith continues to get picked apart nationally.

Yahoo! Sports wrote a long takedown of Smith on Wednesday that starts by saying the "quarterback is still under great scrutiny in league circles."

This wouldn't be the case if Smith was drafted by a team other than the New York Jets. This also wouldn't be the case if Smith's former agents didn't have an agenda.

The Yahoo! report reveals details of a private client dinner in New York last week during which Smith called his agents "family," saying they would stay together his entire career. Days later, after the draft-day free fall, Smith fired the agents. The agents responded by releasing a blame-shifting statement to the media Tuesday night.

Other information that did not paint Smith in a flattering light conveniently leaked out to reporters Tuesday and in the Yahoo! Sports article. Smith reportedly turned off some teams by spending too much time on his cellphone during visits rather than engaging with team officials.

"All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people, and he was over there by himself. That's not what you want out of your quarterback," one unnamed source told Yahoo!.

A league executive in the piece questioned whether Smith knows how to take instruction and said that Smith has tuned out other voices "because he thinks he's got it all down."

Another anonymous source: "Right now, he's blaming everybody but himself, and he has some buddies around him who are telling him that same thing."

Some of the criticisms about Smith's leadership style -- and how that style affected his draft stock -- could have merit. But Smith made a business decision to fire his agents, and he's getting punished for it in petty, unprofessional ways.

Clearly, his former agents have a score to settle.
                            "Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"

wait.. is it clear his former agents are the source of the leak? doesn't seem like it to me.

Also, how great is it that whenever there's a negative piece (PFW) there's a puff piece (SI) on Geno. And now that there's a negative about him in Yahoo, Gregg Rosenthal blames the agents as the counterspin.

NFL is like daytime soaps sometimes.
