  • Waivers to be claimed at noon.

Howie is now officially in his glory. He'll wheel and deal and be out front, and then sneak back into his hole until next April.

Going to be interesting to see how many of our roster CBs are replaced with better castoffs from the waiver wire. It's pretty sad to thinm that 3/4 of our backfield could be players who weren't good enough to make other teams. It's even sadder that those players will most certainly be an improvement over our guys!!

I don't think we'll be picking up any starters today. I'm sure there are some players better than our current backups though. Any CBs we pick up would probably be #4 on the depth chart at best. You could probably find better safeties than Coleman or Anderson but you also don't know if they would be special teams aces.

One of the CBs may be sacrificed to shore up another position as well. OLB is the glaring one. Odd to cut McCoy when you're not absolutely sure you can find anyone better, but maybe they are guessing that's the best way to get him to the practice squad.

... and if that was the gamble, they lost. Sounds like Jacksonville claimed McCoy. Sounds like they also claimed Winston Guy, a safety cut from Seattle, who a couple people thought could be an Eagles target (just based on that it seems Seattle had a bunch of good DBs, and anyone they cut would probably be of interest given our situation).

TE Clay Harbor claimed by the Jaguars, source said.
          Russell Shepard Jr.. ‏@LSUShep10 3m
Happy to be apart of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers !!! GOD IS SOOOOO GOOD
So it sounds like the Jaguars also claimed Harbor. And Tampa Bay claimed Shepard (arghh).

Chad Hall got cut by the 49ers... and got claimed by the Chiefs. Heh.

Also sounds like OLB Adrian Robinson (the guy we traded Felix Jones for) was claimed by the Broncos. I think Felix Jones has stuck on the Steelers roster as well.

Eagles announced: Claimed CB Shaun Prater off waivers from Bengals. Waived/injured CB Curtis Marsh.
OK, so that is one CB replaced (and another cut from the 2011 draft).

Prater was a 5th round pick out of Iowa last year and spent the year on IR. 5'10", 190.

Eagles also announced signed to the practice squad: OT Michael Bamiro, LB Travis Long, WR Greg Salas and RB Matthew Tucker.
Reuben Frank had reported yesterday that Bamiro, Tucker, Shepard, Kinne, and Momah were practice squad targets for the Eagles, so that is two of them. Wonder if Salas was kept after Shepard got claimed elsewhere.

Sounds like Jacksonville claimed *seven* players off waivers. Among their subsequent cuts were Jordan Shipley and Andy Studebaker.

has AR picked up the fireman? If not, that is an indictment of his later years.

No. Any team that picked him up would have to pay him his guaranteed 1.1 million salary this year. So, no way he was going to be claimed. Basically teams are going to wait until they just have to pay the vet minimum (leaving most of the tab to the Eagles since the salary and/or bonus is guaranteed I think). I've heard conflicting stories on that... either that's after he passes through waivers without being claimed (which has just happened), or I've been reading it might be sometime in October. Not sure if that is because another team would become liable for a bonus if they sign him, or if Watkins would forfeit that bonus if he signs a new contract (meaning it would be financially bad for him to sign anywhere until he gets that). So... it may be sometime in October before he catches on anywhere. Maybe that was part of the logic in cutting him -- he's almost certain to be available on the street for several weeks if it turns out the Eagles do need him. Or maybe the October bit was a mistake and he's available now for the minimum.
