  • The Many Faces of Tom Coughlin....

    ...almost all of them angry!

I don't dislike Tom. He can be annoying as Hell but he's tolerable because he's so often entertaining.

I love watching him on the sidelines, standing there in his classic old woman pose, hands reversed and resting on his hips...

an almost perpetual scowl on his face...

just waiting for the next injustice to be visited on him by the lousy officials which will, of course, require that he EXPLODE!

I decided to take a look back at Tom's career to see if I could determine the source of all this anger.

I didn't know that Tom had played his college ball at Syracuse, just 50 mies away.
This picture of Tom at the 'Cuse hints at what may be at least part of Tom's problem...

    ...chronic, painful constipation!
The look on Tom's face in this old pic tells it all.
Here he is straining unsuccessfully to pinch off a loaf on the sidelines during practice.
Poor old Tom would go for days without being able to take a dump.

    That would make anybody grumpy!

But Tom should get credit for the way he's grown as a coach over the years.
When he was with the Jaguars he was often out of control with his anger...

He's so much calmer now! He's gained almost compete control of his emotions...

Tom has even learned to appreciate a good play made by an opponent!

                LOL!

I hope he stays forever...he is one of the most predictable, conservative and whiny coaches around. We know how to beat his Giants and have done it a lot over the years.

Between him and Eli's many faces of defeat, one could hardly ask for anything better...well, Jerry & Romo are pretty good facial actors too

Cept he is laughing at us while waving his 2 SB rings!

Let me add I don't like the guy either but he does manage to get the job done.

I was thinking the same thing. I would gladly put up with his whining and tantrums if it meant a championship.

I'm not so sure that the emotional whiny animated guy isn't worth it. We had Andy and now Chip both of whom are very stoic on the Sidelines.

I'm sure it really doesn't matter but sometimes I wouldn't mind seeing my coach get fired up a bit.

Still doesn't mean I like TC, but making fun of him seems a bit jealous.

I suspect that Jeffry Lurie has a lot to do with us hiring that type of guy as a coach. Perhaps after seeing someone like....say...Ray Rhodes? Maybe Lurie values that calm, less demonstrative type of leader?

I'm sure that is true fresh. However, like MD, I would like a guy who shows a little emotion once in awhile. Andy didn't do it a hell of a lot but there is a time when you need to call a player or the team out. Not routinely and not for minor stuff but every year or so you need to show you know they didn't do what they were supposed to and you are mad about it.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                          Hope is not a strategy
                          RIP

Thank you Devil's Advocate for your keen insight. You 'seem' to have a gift for knowing what other people are thinking or feeling.

For me to make fun of Tom Coughlin, I must be 'jealous' of him. I'm such a serious guy, I must have some deep ulterior motive to take shots at a guy who's tantrums on the sidelines often border on the hysterical. It can't possibly be that the man invites ridicule by his frequent childlike outbursts.

And I must confess I don't see the connection between the Giants' success and Tom Coughlin's constant, often way over the top, complaints to officials on virtually every call that doesn't go the Giant's way. In the pictures I posted, he was directing his anger at officials, not Giant's players. Exactly how does his acting like an ass with the officials improve the performance of his players.

It 'seems' that's a stretch even for one as perceptive as you.
