  • Eagles rumored draft day trade with Jets

    According to Metro
If Marcus Mariota is available at No. 6 in next month's NFL Draft, he likely will be taken. But a league source said the Jets, in desperate need for a quarterback, won't be selecting the former Oregon QB there and that the Eagles and Jets would make a trade if the scenario plays out.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a highly-placed league source termed a potential marriage between Mariota , the Heisman and Maxwell Award winner after a stunning 2014 season, and the Jets as “highly unlikely.” The source said that the Jets aren't in the mood to pick Mariota with their sixth pick and that if the Oregon quarterback is available, the “Jets will be shipping that pick away.”
    The likely landing spot?
“Philadelphia would make that move and pay that price. We're talking multiple picks and a player,” the source said. “The Jets would be open to moving the pick and the Eagles have internally prepared to move up in the draft. There are contingencies in place and they know that Marcus is that perfect fit.”
Of course, Mariota played under now Eagles head coach Chip Kelly before Kelly left for the NFL in 2013. Given his obvious familiarity with the Eagles' offense, Mariota would walk into Philadelphia as the likely starting quarterback of the Eagles come Week 1.
The source said with “100 percent certainty” that if Mariota is available at No. 6 it will be the Eagles, and not the Jets, who will be picking at that spot.
“The Eagles covet Marcus and rightly so. He's a great fit for their offense,” the source said. “This could be a case where the Jets could cash in and would be willing to do so. Not quite Ricky Williams level but we're talking multiple picks and perhaps a player.”
The Williams trade refers to the 1999 NFL Draft deal where the New Orleans Saints sent eight draft picks to the Washington Redskins so they could move up seven slots to the No. 5 selection to select Williams, who won the Heisman the year before as a running back at Texas.

I wonder if some team in the 6-12 range would troll Kelly by selecting Mariota whether they truly needed a QB or not.

Would the Jets take him if Kelly doesn't call?

I think this is Kelly trying to deflect in some way.

I am all in saying we trade up and don't take Mariotta but maybe a Vic Beasley, trae Waynes or amari Cooper.

Maybe that is why the Eagles are clearing up so much cap space. To move up they are going to have to basically give up this years draft and then some. If that is the case, that extra cap space is going to have to fill in a lot of holes that remain.

Things have been crazy here and are about to get even more so.

That has been the guess of many, at this point. The more spots we can fill in FA, the less we need of draft picks.

It's as good a theory as any.

I guess Nick Foles better start looking for an apartment in New York City!

guys I just don't see it. chip wants a mobile QB but I don't think in year 3 he can afford to mortgage the farm to get it.

talk to me after the free agency period.

if we figure out a way to sign

2 corners - maxwell and house maybe
              1 safety - mccourty
              1 OLB - Worlids
              1 OG - clint boling
1 RB - Ingram or spiller
              and
              1 WR plus resign Maclin.

then to be honest I guess I would have no problem if he traded this years 1 2 and 3 plus next year's 1 and maybe 3 to move up and take mariotta.

but without filling all those holes via free agency i just don't see how he can give up all that with so many holes to fill

what is the perceived trade value to get to #6 ?
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I am hearing from some folks I know in New York that this is absolutely true. In fact, the deal in place is #20, #52 this year, 2016 first round pick & 4th rounder as well as Vinny Curry. If Mariotta is there at 6. That is a big IF. Also they view the 2016 1st rounder as the coup in the deal. The reason is they think the Eagles will take a step back in 2015 and feel the pick will be in the 8-12 range. Very interesting.

I don't think the price is prohibitive in fact it makes sense for both teams.

If we could then flip Foles into recouping at least the 2nd and 4th we lost (which in a year where there are only two QB's we might get more) then if Mariotta is what Chip wants go for it.
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

I am OK with those picks but I'd much rather give them Boykin. Curry is a very good player and loves being an eagle.

Depends on his value to the Jets. They may want Foles. Gino Smith isn't the answer. Foles did take a step back last year, but there is still reason to believe that he could be a good starting QB in a more traditional offense. He'd probably have a steadying effect on the position that would really appeal to the Jets.

This trade wouldn't surprise me, but there is no way this stuff gets out.

Gambling site gets spooked, takes Mariota to the Eagles bet off the board

                            Eagles NFL Philadelphia Marcus Mariota

                            By Jimmy Kempski
                            PhillyVoice Staff

Yesterday, Vegas, or rather Canada-based Bovada.lv, put out odds on whether or not the Eagles would land Marcus Mariota. This is how it appeared both on their site and in their promotional email to media outlets:

In case you're not a degenerate gambler, I'll explain what those odds mean. If you bet $100 on "yes" and Mariota is an Eagle Week 1 this season, you win $400. You have to bet $700 just to win $100 if you bet "no." In other words, Bovada wasn't buying what a number of us Philly writers are reporting, in my case, that the Eagles are determined to go get their guy.
Shortly thereafter, the odds on their site moved sharply. "Yes" moved from +400 to +250, and "no" moved from -700 to -400.
Then, shortly thereafter once again, they took "Yes" completely off the board. You only had the option to bet "No."

                            Now... It's gone completely.
What to make of this? Everyone and their mother... and probably Chip Kelly himself (kidding)... likely starting banging away at "Yes" the second those odds went up, and Bovada went, "Oh crap."
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. The money has to be pouring in on Philly. I'll bet it comes back once things even out though. Then again if it doesn't come back it almost wants me hope the Birds take him just so those bastards get hammered.
