  • Polk is now a free agent

Eagles withdraw offer to Chirs Polk

The Eagles decided Friday their backfield was too crowded for running back Chris Polk, Philly.com reports,

The Birds withdrew their $1.54 million tender offer, making Polk an unrestricted free agent.

Polk was the odd man out after the Eagles added DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews this offseason to a running back corps that also includes Darren Sproles.

I wish we kept him and didn't sign Matthews. However, I am not too worried about it. We are likely going to take a 4th RB like Yeldon or artis-Payne in the 4th or 5th round.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

I wonder if he asked them to let him leave?
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I would think that it was mutual because it sounds like he never signed his tender.

I really liked Polk's play and the way he conducted himself on and off the field. But it seems he could never fully recovered/healed from that shoulder injury he sustained in college that drove down his draft stock and made him available in the first place.

Life in the NFL can be a real bitch, especially for an RB.

I'm not quite following the logic there. I don't think Polk comes anywhere close to Matthew's talent level and if Murray were to go down I sure as hell would rather have Matthews over Polk to carry the load as the feature back. Polk did a great job in the limited role he had but is not capable (IMO) of being "the man".

I seriously doubt that scenario comes to fruition.

Especially since Winston stock seems to keeps falling. But the NFL is full of scumbags so he still could go number 1. On a side note, I thought MM looked pretty average against Ohio State in the Championship game.

60 I think you're confused buddy. MM is NOT Marcus Mariota, he'll be long gone before the Eagles get to the podium. Instead MD Fan has launched a campaign to have MusicMan drafted. He can't play worth a damn but he would do wonders with the cheerleading squad!!!

Nah, I want "OUR" MM right where he is.... I want no distraction from his current duties. Now I wish Vet Turf would get off his lazy ass and match MM in quantity.

Zep, bud, I know it's like a 500 to 1 shot on the other MM, but I truly think he could be a SB QB with Chip's O and scheme.

I played a mean fullback in my day, but no one is gonna spend a first rounder on a FB, much less a soon to be 52 year old. I am grateful some of you recognize that I have an eye for talent though .

So you were a fullback? Was that in college? You know Fresh plays "wide receiver" in the cigar club league. What he really wants is a "tight end" but I'm not sure he's really talking about football.

I think Chip pretty much said that himself.

Bill Walsh had Joe Montana. Belichick has Brady. If Chip is going to attain their level, he's going to have to have that guy.

Mortgaging the future, or not I should say, is a very open ended statement. What does that mean exactly? Your idea of mortgaging the future might mean giving up a bunch of draft picks and players, but to me, maybe trading Bradford and getting a first rounder from Cleveland, and packaging something fat for Tenn isn't mortgaging the future, because of free agency, and you have to have that guy to get to that level. Yea, it sets you back a couple of years, but Big Red himself said a QB doesn't fully develop until around year 5.

If your Chip, and you are convinced that Mariota is your guy, you're on the phone on draft day. But, then again, Sam Bradford might be that guy. It's something that Chip needs to get right.

If it were Luck coming out of college or Peyton then I would say do it. Those guys had star written all over them when they first stepped on the field as freshmen. I don't feel the same way about MM. Then again, I'm sure if he is that good Chip would know better than anybody else. Until MM proves otherwise, he's just another product of a great Oregon system. At this point the suspense is driving me nuts though. And we won't know for a couple of years if we should have taken him anyway.
One thing has been bothering me though. I really bought into the Bradford thing when it went down, but to me all the buzz about it has died down and it's like he has disappeared. Where are all the reports about his rehab? His playing status? He is the starting QB for THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES and he's invisible! That's weird.
