  • "I feel like I'm the best quarterback in the league."

Which elite NFL QB made this somewhat cheeky pronouncement? Rodgers, Luck, Brady? Maybe Peyton Manning, in a retrospective look at his career. Too brash for Russell Wilson right?

    Who else could it be?

If you guessed RGIII you win the chicken dinner.

“I don't feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything or why I'm better than this guy or better than that guy. It's more about going out and affirming that for me, I go out and I play, I know I'm the best quarterback on this team," Griffin told WJLA in an interview. "I feel like I'm the best quarterback in the league and I have to go out and show that."

(Link to this piece is embedded in the above paragraph)

I'm glad to see Robert has gained some perspective and is no longer so totally self absorbed.

LOL. I saw that posted on facebook, and the article title was "RGIII hasn't lost his confidence."

First response was, maybe not, but he has lost his mind.

The more important thing from our point of view is that RG3 may have lost his legs.

RGIII: I won’t apologize for "best quarterback" comment

Robert Griffin III didn’t back down despite the firestorm that he sparked when he said during a recent television interview that he feels like he is the best quarterback in the NFL, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reports. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday evening, Griffin maintained his goal and criticized the media for using his words for click bait.

“So, addressing what happened yesterday with the firestorm that took off with what I said, I know what I meant,” Griffin said following Tuesday’s practice. “I think everyone in this circle knows what I meant. And it’s unfortunate that my name keeps getting used for headlines, for people to click on stories. I know what I want to be and I know what I strive to be. I’m not going to make any apologies for that. That’s all I’ve got to say.”

Griffin made the statement at the start of an interview with a scrum of reporters. From there, the quarterback, under the instructions of team public relations chief Tony Wyllie, answered questions pertaining only to Thursday’s preseason game against Detroit, and the progress he and his teammates have worked toward during training camp.

Seriously , what does he have to apologize for? I'm not an RG fan but this stuff was taken out of context. I also saw a pole that he was the number 5 hated celebrity. Holy crap!

Yea he has nothing to apologize for. If you are a starting QB in the NFL and you don't have the confidence to believe you can do anything you are doomed. You may know in your heart there are some better guys and maybe you shouldn't go out of your way to bring the attention to yourself but you better believe in yourself.
          Much ado about nothing IMM.

I don't think he should apologize either. I think apologies from high profile public figures (politicians, celebrities, sports figures) are almost always PR driven, insincere BS.

I do think Griffin would be well advised to edit more carefully his self praise. Strong self confidence is absolutely essential to a QB's survival in the NFL. But unsolicited public expression of that self confidence, particularly when it is bloated and clearly counter to the reality on the ground, opens an athlete up to unnecessary ridicule. It may also not play very well with his teammates.

If that what Robert seeks he should, by all means, have at it.

I think RGIII should have taken McNabb's advice: STFU, stop with the relentless endorsements/marketing and focus on your play. RGIII still does not know how to handle the media and makes himself look worse and worse every time he opens his mouth.
Eliminate distractions, create energy, fear nothing, and attack everything.

Guys, I have something to confess. I think I am the best quarterback in the league. I'm as right as RG3 is.

We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

After taking a huge hit in the Washington Redskins' Thursday night preseason game against the Detroit Lions and being treated for a possible concussion, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is "fine" and may even be ready to play in the third preseason game next week according to Britt McHenry of ESPN.

RGIII was battered and bruised behind an awful showing from the Redskins' offensive line Thursday night, taking three sacks and six QB hits on his eight drop-backs. Miraculously, he avoided serious injury but one has to wonder how long he will survive. He is expected to remain the Redskins starting QB but this point, neither he nor backups Kirk Cousins or Colt McCoy have much chance for success or decent health unless that offensive line improves immediately. We shudder to think what the Baltimoore Ravens defense will do to Griffin and compaany next Saturday.

That kid may have his own issues but he stepped into a pile of dog when he signed with Washington. I swear if I was a FA QB and Danny offered me twice as much as Lurie I would take the half and go on a budget.
But I sure hope he doesn't sell that team.

I didn't see the game, just short clips of him being beaten around like a rag doll that nobody wanted, culminating in the totally unforced fumble where he got hurt trying to cover it. I found myself almost feeling sorry for him.
