Standing in front a group of reporters this time, Marcell Dareus didn't back down from what he told the Buffalo News after his team's 11-10 win at Cleveland Thursday night. He's uncertain about his future in Buffalo and wants to be paid what he believes he's worth, Tyler Dunne of the Buffalo News reports.
But Dareus is also well aware that the team could simply franchise tag him in 2016, meaning he could be in Buffalo for at least two more seasons.
"We all know how I feel. We all know how the team feels," Dareus said. "I want to be a part of the Buffalo Bills. I want to be a part of the history we're going to make here. But at the same time, it's a business and we have to go through negotiations just like anybody else in any other career. So we just try to do what we can and move forward.
"People feel certain ways but at the same time, we're going to get over that hill. We're going to make something happen and try to get a deal done."
Dareus admits his strong words about his contract status --- he said "I feel like they don’t really want me here" and that the Bills are treating him like he's "a dime a dozen" --- aren't going to change anything.
One source indicated the Bills extended a six-year, $90 million offer to Dareus that he turned down. Asked what number he's seeking on Thursday, Dareus smiled and said, "Thank you Suh." On Saturday, he backed off of that remark a bit.
This time when asked if he had a number in mind, Dareus said he's not necessarily looking at Suh's contract, which was worth $114 million over six seasons.
"I just want to be treated right," he said. "Just like everyone else."
Of course, the franchise tag could be a possibility for Buffalo, something Dareus is well aware of. Despite his disgust in the negotiation, hinting after the game that he'd be on his way out of Buffalo, the Bills could simply tag him after his rookie contract expires this season.
"If that's something they consider," Dareus said. "There's not really much I can do."
His feelings on the franchise tag? "I'll sign the paper."
