  • Billy Davis

I know this is not going to be popular but I thought his game plan was terrible last night. This is going on three years now and this defense just keeps getting worse. There is a reason why he failed elsewhere as a defensive coordinator. This team has a ton of talent on defense but I don't think Davis puts them in the right position to win. Chip might survive a bad year this year but I don't see Davis surviving.

Fresh and I stated as such in another thread. Davis talks a good game. Check that, Davis talks a great game but does not deliver. I hear all about Undlin but these dbs still struggle. I think Chip has a hand in defense too. AAaaahhhh, it was just a shit game. Dallas just became a megagame!!!

Atlanta did a bunch of run blitzes to totally fuck up some plays, just saying

Listening to Trotter last night on how Jim Johnson would have played Jones, then listening to Hugh Douglas and Hollis Thomas today, I am even more convinced that Davis has to go. He is not putting his players in the best position to win games.

As likeable as he is, I gotta believe that Davis' seat is heating up...

Damn MM, we saw that every week last year. Teams learned after Chip's first year that you just can't sit back and let them run their offense against base defenses. That's why I was saying the preseason was a joke because we'd never see those defenses once the season started. They want us to throw. The early Mathews drop killed us along with Huff not knowing the ball was coming his way and adjusting his route.

              Just heard a fun stat......

In his 33 games as Eagle DC, Billy Davis defense has allowed a receiver to excede 140 yards receiving Ina game 8 times.

In ten years with the Eagles as their DC, 160 games.....Jim Johnson defenses have allowed.......6

I get what you are saying, but the league has changed a lot since JJ passed

we just don't generate enough pressure, from anywhere. So far in this game, where's Graham ? Barwin has been close a couple times. Carroll got pressure on the Cox sack, but not much else.

Pass rush changes everything. They ran max protect a lot and we had none.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

So if a team uses max protect we have no answer? We can't find a way to shut down 2 or 3 receivers? OK it's 4:18 and I'm going to crack a beer on that one!!

Which is why I am talking about coaching right now, as opposed to simply player talent. We saw a corner blitz last night and it made me think of JJ. Was effective too, huh?

JJ maximized his players.....whether it was Trotter, or Dawk or whomever. Get the best out of them. We make player changes and see the same problems with Davis. What does that suggest?

I know the game has changed, but the passing game is not twenty times more dynamic.

I agree 60. You know what's coming, plan for it. Throw, go wide, run the O even faster, screens............ If we can't operate when an opponent stacks the box, might as well throw in the towel right now.

If AR was calling that game last night, this whole board would be screaming about the play calling and not putting players in the best position to win.
And of course I would counter with execution is the more important factor.

Kelly made the adjustments. We threw the ball 56 times last night.

It WAS player execution. Dropped passes, missed blocks.

Execution, friekin execution! That's the key. I saw nothing wrong with offensive play calling last night. I saw Jenkins choke on two game changing plays. I saw both Mathews choke on game changing plays, along with Huff not knowing how to adjust his route and the ball came to him! I saw Parkey choke on a game changing play. I saw Davis choke on a pedestrian defensive scheme. I saw a lot of gagging last night! Chip made great halftime adjustments. The interior line was horrid.
