  • B'in or S'in-- Reid is not happy with skill players?

The general gist of Ford's article today was that Reid even though he sez he is happy --- really isn't happy with the skill players on the Eagles. Thus the Davis visit.

Are you buyin that or was the Davis visit just a preventative maintenance thingie in case of injury(Westy, Moats, Perry and Bucky potentials) and any interest in Wr's is strictly a preventive posture for Pinky not being ready?

You buyin or sellin that Reid isn't happy?

"What is most illuminative about the interest in Davis is not how it comes out - Davis is now at the Dorsey Levens-circa-2004 stage of his career - but that the Eagles are entertaining the notion at all. Reid has maintained that he is satisfied with the roster as the season approaches, although it turns out now that he could be a little more satisfied."

    and

"Make 2006 a return to the days when the defense was expected to shut down the opponent and the offense was expected to score just enough points to win, with an emphasis on risk management. The question is whether the current offense can pull that off, and the answer from above, as indicated by the tryout of Davis, is: We're not sure."

    Buying.

Despite what the people who dislike Andy say about him never giving anything to the media and being content with mediocre players at positions where people think the Eagles don't care - Andy sees what we see.

He's been a little more open this year as far as saying things to the press. You don't have to read between the lines as much. But he will still never, ever rip his players in print.

And everyone remembers the "we're fine with our WRs" quote after the 2003 NFCCG debacle.

He then went out and got you-know-who a couple months later.

    His actions speak very loud.

considering they've made a habit in recent years of late preseason RB additions, i'm not overly concerned. davis is a similar pickup to levens or gordon.

i am a bit concerned that two of the key RB's -- moats and perry -- have a fumbling problem.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!

Buying. Andy has several deals working and is just waiting for the right time to pull the trigger (opinion, not fact).

Buying. Our WR's and RB's are below average for a team that wants to win a Super Bowl.

Buy it all the way - Eagles have had their names attached to every WR name out there - that's not unusual and doesn't by itself mean anything, but this offseason it seems like there's been fire to go with the smoke. It's clear that Reid really wanted Javon Walker, and unfortunately he was the only real difference maker that was a fit. (As opposed to Randle-El and Moulds.) Now Lelie is out there, also a good fit, and it seems like something's being worked on. But even if it doesn't happen, I don't think Reid likes what we've got right now.

RB is a different story. I don't think RB was viewed as a need during the offseaon, but with Moats' injury and poor preseason showing, and Perry looking like he's no longer on the map, they realize someone might be needed. As mentioned upthread, Davis would fit the bill of preseasons past like Dorsey (twice) and Gordon.

                Buyin.

I think the situation has changed significantly since before training camp opened. The Eagles probably expected a significant contribution out of Ryan Moats, and they are now concerned that he's hit a wall. They probably thought that Pinkston was on his way to returning to health. That has not happened. That's two skill players that they were probably figuring on making a significant contribution. If Pinkston hadn't suffered a major setback, and if Moats hadn't hurt his knee, along with the fumble against Bal, they probably would feel a lot more comfortable than they do right now.

EB, so you're sayin that going into training camp he was happy with them, but due to the injuires he is no longer?

PS. Do you really think that that fumble (Moats) is going to have some sort of influence on Reids thinking?

                  Just askin.

Sort of. He probably thought that if Pinkston gets healthy, and Moats plays well, they were good enough, overall, to get the job done, but they would still keep an eye out for upgrades. Now, I think they have realized that Pinkston's season is in jeapordy, and I honestly don't know what is up with Moats. Perry looked real good in the OTAs as well, and he's probably not even going to make the club. The outlook has changed a bit, I think. He may not have been totally happy with the situation before camp, but there has to be more concern now.

Depends. We don't know how often he coughs it up in practice. I don't know what the deal is with Moats, to be honest. Fumbling is always a concern for coaches. You wouldn't think one fumble, in and of itself, would be cause for concern, so there must be more to it.

                    Regardless, I'm still buyin.

I guess what I was tryin to find out was who was buying from a talent pov and who was sellin.

See I agree I'm buying at this point, but I think it is only because of injury and not talent.

I think he was satisfied coming into camp but the Westy and Moats and even Perry along with Pinkies "non" recovery changed it so that I'm now buyin.

So I guess I was sellin when camp started and now I'm buyin.

Buying. If things come together there is potential with this team. But other teams are not walking around in fear of the Eagles. Baskett/Brown/et al may make some noise as WRs if Westbrook &. LJ can draw the attention of the D. Otherwise I am not sure they make many things happen. And LJ/Schobel need the WRs to play big in order to opne things for them. And all of them could use a good dose of DMac runs to help open things. Player for player I am not sure the O is that strong but given a few building blocks and I think they can compete
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                        Hope is not a strategy
                        RIP
