  • Murray

    So what is the deal? Is there anyone that will give the birds a turkducken for him after seeing Chip completely disregard him in a 4th and 1 situation. Especially knowing Chip's penchant for giving away top players for nothing.

    Murray didn't show s*** this year and I was an advocate for starting/playing Mathews/Sproles but damn you have to put your big, run up the gut RB in there for that play
    Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy

    You have to try to trade him in offseason to a team that is a better scheme fit. Jags, Browns, or the Texans. He has to be a downhill guy. You probably have to send cash with the deal to get rid of him.

    Or you get a new coach with a better scheme fit.
    You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

      no one will give you shit based on this season, past workload and the contract. A conditional late round pick might be had if someone is crazy. Hell some may just want to wait till Chip cuts him.
      We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

        U might have to package him with a player somebody would want to get rid of him

          That was on Chip! I'm sorry but I have totally lost respect for Chip after that one last night. The guy gets it done in those situations and yet he isn't on the field. You want to play the other guys because you want to win? Gimme a break!

            I think the best option is to find a way to use Murray best in the offseason. Sproles will be gone next year with Barner taking his role. So Murray and Mathews should be a two headed monster in the backfield. They need learn where Murray was used best in Dallas and incorporate that into our offense next year. No more square pegs in round holes, you have to figure out how to use the guy.

              it will be interesting to see what happens on the O-Line. None of the 5 have played all that well this year. Johnson may be playing the best. I know Peters has been banged up, but how many years does he have left.

              It feels like the problems on the O-Line is the major issue with the offense

              well, that and the lack of a quality deep threat

                As is always the case no one knows the inner workings at NovaCare so you are left to wonder if he made a pass at Chip in the shower or what but I can't believe anyone will give anything for him. What I don't know is if Chip and he can patch their problem for the benefit of the team or whether Chip will just say goodbye ala Desean. If he does send him packing that is going to spank the sal cap (although sal cap is always a crap argument IMM). If he stays you have to figure out how to use him or you run the risk of team turmoil.
                It will be interesting to see what they do (unfortunately)

                  If Chip does send him packing then what does that say to other potential FAs out there? I know these guys follow the money but if you have overpay a guy by 10 million because he may or may not get along with the coach then what happens? Cap Hell and a bunch of mercenaries who could care less about winning just getting paid.

                    I'm wondering if Murray was benched for the first half only last night and Chip wanted to keep it in house?
                    "Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"

                      This thought crossed my mind as well. Wouldn't surprise me.

                        Popper,

                        Good to hear from you!

                        As to someone being 'benched', I say strap Kelly's ass to splinter filled wooden bench and cart him right back up to New Hampshire!

                        I turned the game off last night immediately after that play. I would have been OK with going for it and failing IF Kelly had used Murray, who has been by far the most reliable short yardage guy. It's the only thing Murray HAS done well. So what fucked up Kelly Logic went into not using Murray?

                        That play call, and the way Kelly implemented it, epitomized "The Kelly Reign of Incompetence" in my opinion. Call a play that goes against the book, because you're so much smarter than everyone else, and then fail to use the player most likely to run it successfully. Not only do you increase the risk of failure for both that specific play and for the game as well, but you also risk losing the support of some members of the team for being a horses ass in showing up Murray and NOT doing your very best to call a winning game.

                        For a genius, Kelly is doing a persuasive job of acting the fool time after time.

                          Now I'm really confused as I thought that Kelly went too much by the book there. He had a wide formation called and then the Cards called TO. Kelly then brought in everybody tight as a drum and ran the only play that they could out of that formation which was totally predictable unless they ran a QB sneak. To me that was ultraconservative and also pretty dumb.

                          The fact that he didn't bring in Murray makes me think that he was benched for the half because he came in to play in period 3.

                          And to further confuse things I think that the 15-15 stat is misleading because I'll bet half of those have been on 3rd and 3 or more (obvious pass situations) and Kelly fooled defenses with runs.

                          So how does such a great play caller come up with such a horrible call in that situation? It just baffles me??? I don't mind that they ran but why from that bunched up formation???

                          Are we saying the same thing and I'm reading your post wrong???

                            I think the book says something like the following:

                            A - you run the ball if 1) you have a solid offensive line and 2) a solid power back combining to give you a good chance of making the 1st down;
                            B - if you don't have both 1) and 2) above, you kick the FG because, against the opposing Offense, you have to come away with at least some points;
                            C - if you have a decent power back but a mediocre, at best, O line then you run the ball only if the defense sets up in a scheme likely to allow you success. If the D's scheme makes success unlikely, you call TO and kick the FG;
                            D - if you're desperate to score as many points as you can because you're playing a team who's offense has been going through your defense like shit through a goose, then you run the ball using your BEST power back;
                            E - and finally, if your power back has been benched because of some major rule infraction like drinking the wrong flavored smoothie or disconnecting his sleep monitor 10 minutes early, and is therefore unavailable to run the ball, you kick the FG...and drink hemlock after the game when it finally dawns on you that you're an arrogant fucking prick who is way, way over his head.

                              That short yardage fiasco last night was all Kelly. U are a genius so you line up tight, with narrow splits, and you even motion another guy in to clog it up that much more. Just stupid. Predictable. Ignorant.

                              Either kick the FG or spread them out balanced or even unbalanced and run where U have an advantage in head count.

                              They ran an unbalanced line last week twice. Didn't see it this week.

                              Chip is a FRIGGIN DISASTER!

                              He is also an asshole who has lost the locker room.

                              If Jeff lets him come back we are doomed.
