Philadelphia police investigating sexual assault allegation against Nelson Agholor

An investigation is underway into an accusation of sexual assault against Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor.

A dancer at Cheerleaders Gentleman’s Club told police that Agholor assaulted her inside the club on Thursday afternoon and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross confirmed the department is investigating.

“There was an allegation made against one of the [Eagles] players of a sexual assault that was reported by one of the female dancers,” Ross said, via David Gambacorta of Philadelphia Magazine. “Our Special Victims Unit is actively running on the investigation.”

Gambacorta reports at least two other Eagles were at the club with Agholor on Thursday, the same day that the Eagles wrapped up their OTAs. Ross said police are trying to get video from the club and that they have been in touch with the Eagles. The team also released a statement on Friday.

“We are aware of the police investigation involving Nelson Agholor. The organization has been in contact with Nelson and with the proper authorities in Philadelphia. Because of the legal nature of this matter, we will have no further comment.”

Agholor is expected to be interviewed by police soon as part of the investigation.

Nelson Agholor accused of rape, per report

Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor has been accused of raping a 27-year-old dancer at the Cheerleaders Gentlemen’s Club, according to a report from Philadelphia Magazine. The incident allegedly took place after the Eagles' final minicamp practice on Thursday.


"There was an allegation made against one of the [Eagles] players of a sexual assault that was reported by one of the female dancers," said Police Commissioner Richard Ross. "Our Special Victims Unit is actively running on the investigation."

Ross said detectives are trying to track down video footage from the club. Ross said the Police Department has been in contact with Eagles officials. Agholor is expected to be interviewed by investigators some time soon. He has not been charged with any crime.


At least two other Eagles players were reportedly at the club with Agholor.

The Eagles released a statement regarding this report.


"We are aware of the police investigation involving Nelson Agholor," said Derek Boyko, a spokesman for the Eagles. "The organization has been in contact with Nelson and with the proper authorities in Philadelphia. Because of the legal nature of this matter, we will have no further comment."

This is obviously a very serious and surprising allegation. In the past, Agholor has been considered a high character player.

Philadelphia drafted Agholor with the 20th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He had a very disappointing rookie season. Now he faces a major accusation.

Lawyer for Eagles' Nelson Agholor: 'He will not be charged with a crime'





Philadelphia defense attorney Fortunato Perri, Jr., who was retained by Nelson Agholor, said Friday that he does not expect his client to be charged following accusations of sexual assault made against the Eagles wide receiver, Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media reports. This according to a Philadelphia Magazine report.

"Nelson has not engaged in any criminal conduct," Perri wrote in an e-mail to Philadelphia Magazine late Friday afternoon. "We're confident that he will not be charged with a crime."

As Crossing Broad points out, Perri Jr. also represented one of the police officers involved in an alleged nightclub fight with Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy earlier this year in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Magazine was first to report the allegations, stemming from an incident taking place at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday following the Eagles' final minicamp practice at the NovaCare Complex.

According to a source said on the condition of anonymity, the sexual assault allegation is a result of a dispute over money.

Video of alleged Nelson Agholor sexual assault doesn't exist, per report

Video of Nelson Agholor's alleged sexual assault on a 27-year-old woman does not exist, according to a report from Mark Eckel of NJ.com. Earlier on Friday, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said detectives have been trying to track down video footage. It appears their search has been unsuccessful.


Special Victim Units were at the club, Friday, investigating the incident, which allegedly occurred in the club's Champagne Court.

According to all three people, who asked for anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the incident, the club's only cameras are in the bar area and outside in the parking lot. There are no cameras in either the Champagne Court, the VIP Area, or in the Bubble Lounge.

The SVU was watching the bar and parking lot videos, according to one of the people with knowledge of the situation.


Crossing Broad reports the alleged Agholor incident took place in the club's champagne room where, as Eckel reports, there are no security cameras. Eckel does note there are security guards in those areas, however.

The sexual assault accusation on Agholor reportedly originated from a dispute over money. Those close to Agholor believe he was set up.
