  • My other surprise cut

I already came up with Allen Beau a couple of months ago, but that may be shaky because there is nobody around to beat him out. Hopefully someone emerges because other than a space eater he's pretty much useless.

My new addition is JaCorey Sheppard. First of all, that's just a fucked up name. I'll bet he took a lot of crap growing up. I just think there is too much added talent in front of him to stick. Plus, he's coming off a tough injury. Maybe he makes the PS.

I thought the word was that they didn't have much talent at CB. Shepard was earning PT before the injury last year. Maybe he won't be 100% but if he is 100% he may be the surprise keeper
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy
    RIP

I agree Allen is likely gone; Sheppard I think sticks on potential

Beau Allen very well may get cut. Not sure how well he fits in Schwartz' defense. Schwartz may very well find a rookie who he thinks has more promise.

Shepherd would surprise me, but I suppose it could happen if there are a bunch of other young guys who play well. He played well enough last year to basically be the planned slot corner (I don't think we trade Boykin if he didn't look promising). Plus, CBs are probably the least affected by the change from the 3-4 to the 4-3 (even Schwartz' version). And his position coach (Undlin) is still here, so if he looks like the same player, there could be some built-in advantage there.

On the other hand, we do have a lot of bodies at CB. We signed McKelvin and Ron Brooks, both of whom have played for Schwartz before. Nolan Carroll is a proven player, though not a star. Eric Rowe is a 2nd round pick from last year who looked pretty good when he played. Jalen Mills is a low round pick, but he was supposed to have much higher talent and he has stood out in shorts at least, from the sounds of it. Aaron Grymes is a CFL star trying to make the NFL. Randall Evans, Denzel Rice, and Jaylen Watkins are young guys who are still around and trying to make the roster. We could keep up to six, especially if one could fill in at safety (Rowe?) since we have little depth there. But there are going to be some cuts there. If other young guys step up, or Shepherd shows signs of not being recovered from his injury, he could be the victim of a numbers game. But all indications last year were that he had NFL talent.

I think Watkins is playing safety now. Let's face it, after the starter there's squat right now. If Jaylen can tackle he'll probably be pretty good.
