Titans DC Dick LeBeau will return for 59th season at age 80

NFL legend Dick LeBeau will return for his 59th NFL season in 2017 at the age of 80 according to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com.

LeBeau, a Hall of Fame defensive back for the Detroit Lions in his playing days and an outstanding defensive coordinator for several teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers, is currently the assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. Apparently his age did not factor into the decision to return; “The only question in my mind was from the standpoint that somebody’s got to want you to work,’’ LeBeau said. “When Mike (Mularkey) said he wanted me to stay, there was no doubt.”

The Titans' defensie showed a lot of improvement in 2016 and LeBeau has high praise for the progress of his young players. “It was really fulfilling for me to watch our players have some success and to see our team have some success, and that is really why you coach. You are just a teacher. It was a rewarding year,” LeBeau said. “We didn’t get where we wanted to get, and we know we have work to do. But it was not the type of thing you want to run away from. I want to see if we can get this thing over the top. If I were a younger person you wouldn’t even think about [walking away]. Things are headed in the right direction. I try not to pay much attention to the age aspect.”

One day we are going to have to face an NFL landscape without Dick LeBeau. But it will not be in his 59th season-and we would count him out for his 60th, either.

that is the type of defensive guy you put on your staff and learn everything you can from him
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

It's like having conversations with an old fly fisherman. Just keep picking his brain.
