The Oakland Raiders are hiring NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock as their general manager, league sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden called Mayock a "passionate personnel man" following his team's season-ending 35-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

"He loves it," Gruden said. "He has done it for a long time. I know he has had opportunities to get back into the NFL as a general manager. We will see what happens. We will see how the dust settles."

Mayock has drawn interest from teams with general manager openings in recent years, including the Washington Redskins before the 2017 season.

He will replace Reggie McKenzie, whom the Raiders fired on Dec. 10.

That team is a shit show and now my only real reason to watch the draft is gone
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

They should have a good draft anyway. He's a class act and I wish him well. Too bad though because he lives and loves Philly.

Joe Douglas will get a GM job at some point, and I don’t trust Howie with player evaluations. He is a good deal maker, the trade for Tate notwithstanding. Would have really liked to see Mayock in Philly, but he would never do it without total control. Glad he didn’t take Danny’s job - class does not mix with scum well.

I wonder if Jeff cages creative and ‘promote’ Howie to Assistant CEO with oversight of everything but final player evaluation remains with the new GM Joe D.
