Headline-------- "Coughlin might not lose job with Giants

Yes, they couldn't stop Jeff Garcia and Brian Westbrook when it mattered most, but it wasn't an embarrassing defeat. They may have played well enough to save Tom Coughlin's job. Now, I know if the players voted, Coughlin would be fired in a landslide. But players don't make those decisions.

The Giants need to ordain or hire a new general manager. This man should have a major say in Coughlin's future. And if he wants Coughlin gone, he should have a voice in his replacement. There is no question that New York's personnel department is not wild about Coughlin, meaning that Jerry Reese and Chris Mara, the two in-house candidates, would probably like to dump him and find a new head coach.

And on one final note, Tiki Barber went out like a champion — 137 yards rushing on 26 carries. I'm not upset that Barber is retiring. It's his life, his career. He's retiring with his knees and ankles in healthy condition. He has a great opportunity in television. One of the sad stories about this business is that too many players keep playing beyond their best seasons and leave the game in so much pain. Barber beat those odds and more power to him.

i think they'll keep coughlin around for one more year, then make a run at cowher.

I heard they keep TC another year to take a run Billicheck. That would not be good news.

In that case, fire the bastard now!! The last thing that we need is Billicheck in our division. Word has it that the Giants will have a ton of money with the new stadium deal.

Personally I think they go after Parcells once he and Jerry part ways. As for Coughlin staying it's great news for a couple of reasons, with Tiki retiring this year it means they lost a big part of their offense. That puts more pressure on Eli and he can't handle the pressure he's under now. Strahan can't be long in the league - this was his 14th season I think. That means either this year or next they take a hit on the defensive side of the ball too. Now throw in a coaching change and you have a team in serious transition mode. Between this year and next they'll lose 2-3 big pieces and probably a coach and GM along the way. I love it when NY gets kicked in the ego!!

FWIW, Eric... who runs the BBI Corner Forum... reports from a previously reliable source....SCOOP somebody...that Colonel Tom will resign within 2 days and may already have accepted another HC in the NFL (Oakland?).

If true, it's our loss as we will no longer have the pleasure of laughing at this raving maniac twice a year!

If the Gmen do bring back Parcells, what does Dallas do, dig up Tom Landry? Jimmy Johnson? I personally would vote for a return to Barry Switzer!

Supposedly Cowher might be off-limits because of the relationship between the Rooney and Mara families. Although money talks, so we'll see...
