From pe .com I'm sure you guys have seen it but I thought it was funny where rayburn was speaking about it. Yea I don't know why he played lights out either Sam, could it be....... the roids

    A Familiar Face In Hollis
Hollis Thomas hasn't played for the Eagles the entire season after being traded to the New Orleans Saints during NFL Draft weekend, but he hasn't played for the Saints the past four games because of his suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Thomas returns to the Saints lineups on Saturday night when the Eagles visit New Orleans for the NFC Divisional Playoffs. It'll be the second time Thomas plays against his former team, after recording six tackles and a sack against the Eagles on Oct. 15.

"He played lights out last game," said defensive tackle Sam Rayburn, who played with Thomas for three seasons. "I don't know if he felt he had something to prove maybe, or I don't know what it was, but he played very well."
Thomas will be matched up against All-Pro guard Shawn Andrews, who said at the team hotel on Friday that the Eagles will be fine if they play up to their potential.

"We're definitely familiar with the whole defensive front," said Andrews. "What we have to do is be physical up front, which is what we're known to be capable of. That's our main point to focus on."

Rayburn said Thomas "takes things personally," which has helped fuel the motivation for Thomas, a rookie free agent who stuck around with the Eagles for nine seasons.

The performance of young defensive tackles like Rayburn and Mike Patterson, along with the addition of first-round pick Brodrick Bunkley made Thomas expendable. The Eagles used the defensive tackle as bait to move up in the fourth round and draft guard Max Jean-Gilles.

"It's going to be exciting to go in there again and maybe get to hang out," Rayburn said. "It's kind of bittersweet. You like to play with a guy like that. He's a good guy to be around, a good teammate."

Interesting that no one mentioned that maybe, just maybe, Hollis playing lights out in that game had less to do with having something to prove, and more to do with being jacked up on performance enhancing drugs.

I remember watching the game, and thinking that Hollis looked better than what he'd shown for us over the last couple of seasons, and now I know why.

And, hopefully his being off the roids will slow his fat a$$ down a bit.

I seriously think the asthma medicine thing was legit. Hollis wasn't popping roids.

Dan, from what I understand, Hollis got popped for doing an equine steroid that is one of the most powerful anabolics you can take.

        Ashtma medicine my a$$.

Hollis vs. Andrews. That's the game right there, baby. (Okay, that's maybe oversimplifying it a bit, but our o-line NEEDS to whup ass.)

Hollis was always under rated after his injuries. He was actually a pretty good tackle for us.

Hollis Thomas was a damned good football player when he wanted to be. I suspect that he'll want to be today.

Until this week Hollis has not played or praticed with the team for over a month. Maybe he was able to maintain some level of fitness (I doubt it) but he surely won't be in football shape. He will be a non-factor.

If you go back and watch the NFCCG vs Atlanta, Hollis is probably the defensive MVP of that game (and not just because of his hit on Vick). He was very disruptive to a team that was running the ball very well.

The thing I don't understand is that we were very bad vs the run for a few years when he was in there. The Saints were bad (as far a YPC) this year vs the run. The guy seems to turn it on and off.

Enough to Kill a Horse: Hollis Thomas Lucky
As we reported here and here, there is a cloud around Hollis Thomas's suspension in the NFL. Clouds surround his physician, his team (the Saints), and Thomas himself. However, it appears Thomas tested for clenbuterol, which was developed for asthma and is in 2 veterinarian preparations. Clen is blatantly illegal for humans in the US.

With a bit of research Steroid Nation finds that there is a rash of Clen 'poisoning' in horses down Louisiana way. Not only is Clen used in equines, but a concentrated solution used. Enough to kill a horse. Clen is illegal, so who knows the source(or Thomas's source). Word to the wise: don't use this stuff.

You would like to think so, but there are too many things that suggest there is more to it than that, but even if it was just an astma thing, if it was anobolic steroids it still improved his performance.

The more I read about this the more I believe Hollis is getting screwed. There is no way he would be stupid enough to use Clenbuterol and thats what they are banning him for:

This I excerpted from Philly.com where it is a back issue and is no longer freely available, sorry.
"Thomas tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol, which is similar to a substance listed among the ingredients in Thomas' asthma medication. He was suspended despite a letter supporting his claim that Saints team Dr. John Amoss wrote to the NFL, following Thomas' positive test Aug. 6. Amoss maintains he was aware of Thomas' heavy use of asthma drugs. It isn't clear why Amoss didn't notify the league of Thomas' drug regimen before he tested positive for the steroidlike substance, which is not an anabolic steroid and does not build muscle mass."

Look, Clen is legal in most countries around the world and illegal here since the nineties mostly because its a competitive brochial-dilator to the ones our own drug companies already make. Sure it has some sides for some patients but most importantly it has very specific effects. Other than that it is used primarily, in human applications, as a better, stronger alternative to ephedrine...ie to drastically reduce fat. Does anyone seriously think Thomas is trying to lean up with an illegal (here) substance. Its use in the bodybuilding world is primarily to retard the catabolic effect on muscles (muscle wasting) during and especially immediately after a cycle of some heavy steroid usage. I don't buy this as possible in the Thomas case either because those types of roids would have been easily traceable whereas Clenbuterol disappears in just a couple of days. The more I check the more this seems like he has a reasonable case for saying its a false positive and that the leagues has its head stuck ups its steroid fearing posterior.
