  • LS = Bartrum?

Last year we lost Bartrum to a fairly nasty neck injury and his replacment was iffy as I remember...Bartrum is still on the official roster and his replacement (Dorenbos) is too...

I have heard some rumors Bartrum is going to retire and cannot or does not want to come back from that injury.

What do folks think of Dorenbos...he really has not other position and is designated as LS on the roster whereas of course Bartrum was also a backup TE...

Do teams carry a LS? I know Howard has snapped before, do we have any other current players who can LS? This is an important role for ST...

Is Dorenbos even still on the roster? I thought he had one of those "end of the season" contracts

Edit -- He's still on the roster on PE.com

Notice tht Howard is listed as the backup LS behind Dorenbos and Schobel as the backup holder behind Johnson. I believe Schobel did some of both jobs in Cincy and while at TCU.

Yeah, I thought Schoebel was supposed to be able to fill that role. And no, I do NOT want to take up a roster spot just for a holder, or a snapper. I was willing to make an exception for Koy when we went into the playoffs last year, but we NEED to find a beter solution here.

Dorenbos was just OK. It was one of the reasons they signed Koy at the end, because his snaps were not the best. Akers missed a chip shot against Atlanta because of a bad snap and Johnson could not get the ball down well.

You can get by with a less than average holder if the snapper is really good. I would think Feeley will get a lot of practice holding so that he takes over the holding duties. I bet the Birds look for an upgrade at the Long Snapper position.

As I stated in another thread, LB Zak DeOssie (Brown) can also long-snap. If the Eagles were to select him, it is possible that the team wouldn't have to use a roster spot on a dedicated LS.
