  • Overlooked in all of This [Dallas Freaking Cowboys]

How do you ever trade and hand deliver a player that an NFC EAST team wants?

The first time Anthony Spencer sacks McNabb and he fumbles and we watch Demarcus Ware pick it up and run it in for a TD and they are dancing on the LINC turf or wins ROY or Top Rookie for a Month or something - our fanbase is going to want someone crucified.

Maybe he won't. But if he does...Watch out.

----Meanwhile, Kevin Kolb will have a nice baseball hat on------

What if Dallas selected Kolb at 36 and he became the next Troy Aikman? Wouldn't that be as bad?

Dude, Spencer isn't crap. The Cleveland Browns hand delivered a top 5 pick to the Cowboys doorstep.

Well, we got three players for Spencer - Kolb, Bradley, and Gaddis. So, if two of the three ever do anything for us against the Cowboys, then I guess we got the best of the trade.

There's no doubt the Browns fucked us good and hard with their stupidity, but Dallas could have taken Kolb at 36, as well as another 3rd rounder. We at least helped limit the number of players they selected.
It wasn't the greatest deal in the world that's for sure.

Cleveland REALLY pissed me off. I want sooo bad to watch Cleveland play like crap next year but they have become my second favorite team for next year. But I am pretty sure they will suck again.

I don't mind giving the Cowboys the opportunity to draft Spencer. It all boils down to who you trust in terms of talent evaluation.

The Eagles clearly wanted to add a DE since they drafted Abiamiri. They obviously then didn't value Spencer and would not have taken him if staying at #26 (or else. . . . they would have!). I can come to grips with that aspect of draft day and like what they came away with in terms of picks in the deal.

I dislike the Kolb pick (because even if you love Kolb - I can't fathom a) that he wouldn't be there at #57 and b) if you heard someone else liked him - you had those extra picks to move up and get Kolb somewhere between #36 & #57).

As for the trade itself, I have no problem with it. In fact it was a pretty good deal-- IF --- there was nobody there at 26 that wasn't going to be there at 36 that THEY wanted.

That means you would have had to trade up to at least 39 w/ Atlanta, 38 w/ Oakland or 37 w/San Diego and given who they each took, such a trade was not likely. With Miami and then soon after Detroit (at 43) on the prowl for QBs and hints from Jerry Rhome that Kolb was a hotter ticket than fans and media thought, there just wasn't much room for error. The Eagles played it as close as they could given their objective. Heck I did not like the pick at first, but it is growing on me and I see their timing.

I highly doubt that Miami would have taken Kolb. I think they had the BYU kid (Beck) rated higher as most of the draftniks did.

                        * I suppose but with Romosexual that wasn't likely.

In retrospect, I'd actually like to thank Cleveland for snagging Bentley. Not just because of the injuries, but because Jamal Jackson panned out really well for a much lower contract.

The later things and how it worked out-- doesn't diminsh the hate factor for HOW it came down, IMHO.

I don't know that I can blame Cleveland for that, they saw a guy they wanted and signed him, what do they care if the Eagles thought they had him. The people I blame for how it went down are Mark Eckel, LeCharles Bentley, and Bentley's agent.
