  • Eagles Giants Observations

Well at least the draft position improves. Going to need it. This should end any playoff talk. Honestly this team is not ready for that. They need a couple of drafts with the CORRECT high picks in order to build this thing right.

    1. Hurts was horrible today. Three picks all three on really poor passes. Two of which were in the red zone. You can't have this against division rivals. After not playing well against the Cowboys this is really not acceptable. We need to look for a new QB in the offseason. He simply is not good enough. Running the ball protects him but you have to be able to pass in this league. He simply can't do it. He just isn't good enough. Sorry folks I have seen enough of his play to say he isn't gong to be anything more than a back end of the league QB. Yes he can run the ball etc etc etc. but the QB needs to be able to pass it, read a defense and most importantly throw on time. We need better much better.

    2. Bought had it with Miles Sanders. Guy can't stay healthy, he dances too much. Watching Boston Scott take the ball and hit the hole he is a better back for this team. Fumble aside.

    3. Defensively today they were OK. I mean they only gave up 13 points to a poor team.

    4. Avonte Maddox continues to play really well. So close to a huge INT.

    5. Boston Scott should be our starting RB with Gainwell and Sanders spotting in. Yes he fumbled but without Scott you are not even in a situation where you are in the hunt to win.

    6. Reager giveth and Reager takeith away. He should have caught that last pass but even if they win this game it doesn't take away the fact that Hurts played so poorly. Reagor stinks as a returner. Not sure why they continue to use him there.

    7. JJAW sighting,

    8. Smith very quiet today. Bradberry made him his bitch. He needed to have a big game today. He was not getting open (I had some folks at he game sending me some shots).

    9. We need some serious upgrades at safety. I saw McCloud out of position too many times today. Again hard to fault the defense for this loss. But aspects still need to be tuned up.

    10. Barnett played his best game of the year. So did Fletcher Cox.
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

The Eagles lost this game more than the Giants won it. You can't win when you are -4 in turnovers. And, they still almost pulled it off. The Giants are a bad football team, which makes this loss hurt more.

I just don't know what the team sees in Reagor. His speed is OK. 7 targets and 2 catches. He just doesn't have very good hands and can't make any contested catches.

Hurts was bad today. But, I still don't want to see this team give up first round picks on a QB that is probably no better overall. Hurts is still dangerous with his legs and that aids the run game. Not ready to give up on him yet, even though today was an awful performance. However, I have no confidence in him to lead a comeback win when they have to throw the ball.

I saw this coming. All week long the talk was about how well the Eagles were playing, and how terrible the Giants are. I told J-bird before the game that the stage had been set for them to lay an egg, and it was going to be a rolaids game.

      So, here we are.

Hurts was awful. Just when you begin to think that maybe, just maybe he might be the guy going forward, he lays a huge egg. A huge egg.

The defense played O.K., they let the Giants drive the field, burn about 8 minutes off the clock, and kick a FG at the end. Not good. I don't think it would have mattered anyway, because the offense couldn't hold on to the ball.

Am I the only person who thought the officiating was horrible yet again? I would like to congratulate Nate Herbig for being the only guy I have ever seen draw a holding penalty for pancaking someone.

I don't know what the team sees in Reagor either. For a guy who was drafted because of his speed, he sure doesn't show it on returns. He looks like he's running in sand out there.

All in all a terrible loss, but it clearly demonstrates, at least to me anyway, that this is still not a good football team. A few wins against bad teams doesn't change that. As the late Dennis Green so eloquently put it, they are who we thought they were.

As Taz noted, it helps our draft stock. And, we need all the help we can get.

I have about had enough of Sanders too. Special talent but the guy is always hurt. ALWAYS

i think Howard would have been a difference maker in this game.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

I quietly felt uneasy about the team's ability to sustain any success through just running the ball. Hurts is a threat to do so, but if that's taken away, then what? Gotta throw. But if he's not doing that well...

Not sure that Hurts is the answer but I don't want the team to deal those top picks for a QB. They need more than just a good QB.

I'm beginning to believe that Sanders will be dealt. Can't stay on the field, and doesn't decisively hit the openings the OL tears into the defensive front. Just a feeling.

Reagor. Somebody, please help me understand the rationale for continuing to force him into the offense when he has proven ineffective thus far.

There was a tweet somewhere (Jeff McLane) that said Smith was livid after the game because he was seldom targeted.

DeVonta Smith livid as he came off the field. Threw his helmet to the bench. Wanted the ball. Was open. Never saw a target on the #Eagles' final two drives.
How would you like Kyle Hamilton or Brisker as a replacement at safety?

Agree. The team might have had a higher degree of confidence in the running game, and might not have drifted away from it when they did.

Re: Smith being livid. I just watched the video clip. He was open on a crossing route when Hurts targeted Reagor with 25 seconds and ticking down. Had Hurts gone there, Smith would have likely caught it and run down the sideline or momentum carried him out of bounds.

A lot of good points. The running game has to allow you to set up the passing game. I’ve always felt Hurt’s arm
was a limiting factor but he would be able to make the short and intermediates but it just doesn’t look like he can see the field well enough to do even that. I read that tweet along with others that said Smith threw his helmet and was livid that he was open and Hurts was not seeing him or looking for him. I hope like hell they aren’t trying to outsmart the defense by going away from Smith.
they didn’t go into that game running the ball though. If that is because you only have confidence in Howard and Sanders that is a problem. I also wish Howard was there but Scott and Gainwell are competent backs. And I agree Sanders may be (and probably should be) the odd man out next year if you can get anything for him.
I don’t believe there is anyone other than a handful of Eagle employees (high ranking ones unfortunately) that think Reagor should ever suit up again. I’d cut him just to make an example of him.
Yes on the safeties but there are some fine defensive players available. Two DEs from MI looked great esp Hutchinson. And there are a handful of LBs that will start in the NFL right away. Unfortunately I think a lot of teams are going to go for defense in a deep defense draft.
finally, Miami is t helping our cause. Wentz played well today and they lost so those are a plus. He only needs to play one or
maybe one and a half more games to lock in round one pick.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                Hope is not a strategy
                RIP

Re: defensive draft prospects. Man if they can draft Hutchinson, a safety like Brisker (or Hamilton IF he's there), and a CB that would be nice. Or LB Dean or Lloyd from Utah.

Do you think that it's plausible that the staff was directed by the FO to involve reagor so much in this week's game plan? I can envision him being dealt too, if he doesn't get it together...

this was a game where we needed to come out and grind the gnats into the dirt, Instead we came out with some really sketchy play calling which allowed the gnats defense to start feeling frisky and we didn't take the game from them. We also had little energy until it was too late. Coaches need to look in the mirror for this turd
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Just saw the tape on Smith again at the end of the game, he was open on the one play. The other play he wasn't open the safety was shading over to him, Reager should have made the catch at the end of the game. Good throw exactly where it needed to be,

That said this team needs a QB first and foremost. I have thoughtsfor most of what they need. Either in free agency or the draft. (Allen Robinson or Chris Godwin for WR in FA, Campbell or or Barr at LB, Resign Nelson for CB, draft two safeties (Brisker, Battle, Joseph are the three I like the most, Hamilton will be gone by 9). Draft a LB or two. I think either Harris from Alabama or Smith from Penn State will be there in round 2. Draft multiple Edge guys, folks like Obeju from Michigan (Hutchinson is top 5) or Ebikete from PSU among others.

QB is the issue. I only like two Pickett and Ridder who are coming out and I am not sure they are that much of an upgrade from Hurts. There will be a bunch of free agent guys like Newton, Brissett, Bridgewater, Mariotta, Winston. None of them really interest me. Heck Nick Foles is a FA and probably makes the most sense especially if we are a run oriented team.
A couple of guys like Garropolo and maybe even Matt Ryan will be available on the lower end of the trade market. Not requiring multiple first round picks. Then Rodgers, Wilson and Watson (legal issues aside) will be the premium ones.

Other things to think about. I believe Dillard has some decent value on in the trade market. Might be able to pull a 2nd or 3rd for him. Hurts probably gets you something not much but maybe a player for player deal if you move on from him. Reagor is a change of scenery guy who they may get a 3rd day pick for or a player for player trade.

The right moves this team can very quickly be there. Right now though they have a huge hole at QB and Hurts isn't the guy.

If they are being told to involve Reagor to help his trade stock they are losing out because his stock has to be damn near nothing. Hurts needs help reading defenses so he can see the field. Not sure he will ever be able to but they need to give him all kinds of looks during the week and put pressure on him to get him more prepared for game day. Then establish the run so he is comfortable before asking him to pass. And I am serious when I say I would cut Reagor tomorrow and pick up anyone. Just to make the statement and keep Hurts from having to see him

I laughed at media blow-hards thinking this team could be for real. I don't understand how Reagor is playing over Ward. It kills me to watch Jefferson have the first two seasons he is having; both as an Eagles and LSU fan. Once again we were smarter than the rest of the NFL; who had Jefferson ahead of Reagor. Howie needs to stay out of the draft process and stick to what he knows - being Jeff's sock puppet.

My son was saying that in this case the Eagles should have just gone with the SEC guy if all else was equal in their eyes; with the benefit of hindsight, I can't disagree
