  • Backup QB

This is just me throwing my 2 cents, but I watched Sean Clifford for his entire career. He can run the RPO, and has all the arm needed. Since this draft sucks for depth, spend a 7th on him. He was an up and down QB, but he will ripe his leg off and beat you with it if needed. He will do anything to win. Teach him some skills while he backs up a great QB. I think he could be pretty good . He got better every year at PSU. I think there’s a lot to work with.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I think they will end up with Jacoby Brissett. I keep hearing how much Nick loves him and it seems like a good fit.

Brissett is the name that keeps popping up. But I expect the birds to also bring in a young guy for camp. Won’t be an early pick that’s for sure. Maybe an UDFA.

I too could envision Brissett and a young developmental guy added for next year.

If we can afford him sure. You have to realize he's going to be in high demand though. As far as drafting a quarterback goes I would give him an IQ test before I even considered him. NFL Defensive coordinators are like night and day compared to college ones and the most important thing about a QB is how he can read a defense. Until he can do that all the talent in the world isn't going to help him.

Young and athletic backups for me. No retreads. That QB room is all grown up now because Hurts is grown up. We don't need a veteran in that room anymore. Hurts is the veteran. I'd be perfectly OK with the Birds drafting a young QB late to be the backup and keeping Ian Book in reserve as a guy with at least one year of experience under his belt who knows how to at least GET to the QB room in the practice facility and does not need directions.

That may sound crazy to you guys I know but what do any of these backups do for us other than want $3-$4 million to hold a clipboard. Draft a backup with a similar athletic skillset to Hurts.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

A quality vet does more than hold the clipboard in my mind. Often they are like another coach. Especially if they get along in the QB room. There are guys with an attitude who just don’t make good backups IMO. Hell McCown was another coach. At 8 or 10 mil I say no but get the right guy and he is worth the measly 3 mil.
whichever way they go they will bring at least four guys to camp

A team wifh deep playoff aspirations needs a vet backup who can hold the fort. If Mincedmeat had won a game we could have let Hurts heal more. Thinking Brissett comes in for $5m and the Eagles happily pay it.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat!
