  • Eagles Bringing in UGA Co-DC Glenn Schumann in for Interview

The team is teed up to interview Georgia Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. Dan Mathews of 680 The Fan reported the news Wednesday.

“Source: Georgia Co-DC/ILB Coach Glenn Schumann to talk today with the Eagles about their vacant DC position.”

Schumann attended The University of Alabama but did not play before Nick Saban hired him a student assistant. Schumann rose up the ranks and then Kirby Smart hired him in 2016. That year, Smart jumped from Alabama to Georgia and he took Schumann along with him.

He has served as co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach since 2019. His work obviously speaks for itself. The Georgia defense has been one of the most ferocious and tenacious in college football these last few seasons. Their defense is a huge reason why they’ve won back-to-back College Football Playoff Championships.

Sure enough, there are people Schumann is familiar with on staff. Former Bulldogs linebacker Nakobe Dean is part of the Eagles.

The Eagles lost defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals, as they hired him to be their next head coach. Philly appears to be searching far and wide for the next candidate and won’t let any stone go unturned.
The Philadelphia Eagles will reportedly interview Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann for their DC vacancy.

It would be tough not to be great with the players he has.

That sounds a lot like Gannon's situation in Philly too.

I guess it's due diligence as well. If not the DC, he might be persuaded to jump to the league as a LB coach. However, I would assume that his current situation is favorable and that he may be satisfied with it. Watch, wait and see...

I lime that he was a LB coach. LB has been a weakness here for a while so he will likely insist on focusing on improving our LB play.

The good thing about all of this Georgia stuff is I think Howie and Jeff are starting to realize that when in doubt take the player from the elite SEC school. That would not be a bad way to go about this.

Guys like Kelee Ringo, who is just 20 and a big and athletic CB, and Darnell Washington, who is a massive TE, would be excellent pick ups for the Birds in the second or third round. Ringo is sliding and so is Washington but they are excellent size/speed guys. Washington would be a bit of a luxury pick at TE but I am not wowed by the TEs we have past Goedert. Stoll is OK but more of a blocker and Washington outsizes him by 3 inches and 30 pounds.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Looks like he's staying at UGa. I'm starting to wonder about this process. I wonder what the team brass is asking these guys. I do get the feeling that they generally liked Gannon's defensive philosophy (probably not the second-half collapse and his unwillingness to throw a schematic curveball). I wonder if the team is insisting on running a similar scheme, and these guys are not so inclined to do it...
