  • Eagles Vs Giants Observations

A statement win against a team that just isn't very good.

    1. Hurts efficient game. I mean he only had to throw 14 times although he dropped back 19 times. 5 sacks at least two were on him. I don' t know if he isn't seeing things or what but some of those sacks should not have been.

    2. Barkley is the best back in football. That is all.

    3. I have to give Fangio props. This is two weeks in a row where they played more aggressive. They gave some cushion at times but for the most part they really played well. I think Jones had 99 passing yards before he was yanked. This is where these guys on this defense thrive. Keep it going.

    4. We have some really good young corners on the come. Right now I have to say Mitchell is one of the best rookies in the NFL. yeah he doesn't have the INTs but who cares he is locking guys down. Dejean is really playing well. What Fangio is doing with him keeping him around the LOS is perfect.

    5. Nakobe Dean had a really good game. I mean really good. I love unleashing him to rush the passer some.

    6. Speaking of rushing the passer, Jalen Carter was really really good today. Jordan Davis really was clogging up the middle. Heck Even Huff got a sack today.

    7. I liked what Moore did during the game with just keep running it. That is the feel for the game I want to see out of both coordinators. With backups at LT and RG establishing the run was so important.

    8. How about Ben Van Suberan playing fullback not only that he was very effective.

9.The big complaint I have for this game is the penalties. They were legit from what I saw but they just are things that we shouldn't be seeing at this time of the year. I mean jumping false starts, jumping off sides etc. Just hold your damn water.

    10. I think the slow starts this offense are having have to do with trying to be too cute. Just come out establish the run and setup the pass.

Overall this is a statement win. A complete win by both sides of the ball.

We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

The Giants are a mess for sure but that was a heckuva defensive performance. The only reason why the Giants were in the game in the first quarter was their defense.

How does Brian Daboll survive this? They had to ask him if Jones was his guy and he said yes. They have some guys at WR. They just drink out loud.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

My son was at the game, he said the Giants WR were just not getting open. Which means they have offensive scheme issues, they should be able to scheme some guys open. That rookie WR they have is the real deal. They tried get him away from Mitchel, they tried Slay, then they tried the slot. He just wasn't getting open. Part of the Giants problem though is they can't run the ball. Their oline is really bad.

Cooper DeJean is a player. I don't want him trying to run through 8 tackles on punt returns. Come back Covey

I know it's the Giants. But, the defense really came to play today. The secondary could end up being pretty special. Defense does need to start generating some turnovers though. I am not sure why they are not coming.

Barkley carried the day on offense. He is going to have his days where he is explosive and his days when they shut him down. When he is shut down, the passing game better pick it up (Hurts).

I know it resulted in a TD to AJ. But, I don't like throwing that bomb on 4th and 3. It's too low percentage and AJ only had a small step on the defender. Hurts misses most of those throws and fortunately that was a perfect pass. It's another example of the Eagles being aggressive. When it works it's genius. When it doesn't work, Sirianni (or Hurts) get blamed.

Have they turned the corner ? I am not sold yet. But, it was a dominating win.

I heard going into the game that the stats say we are the third best team for defensive backs for yards allowed and I'm sure that improved today.

I would just like to say that we don’t give STs enough love. We have a snapper who is about as perfect as they come. We have a kicker that is damn near perfect from anything inside of 55 yards. We have Covey and DeJean who don’t drop punts, know when to catch and when to clear out and both average big return numbers. Then our punter hits 8 punts for over 52 yards. Has 2 inside the 20 and another kick went 60-70 yards before rolling into the end zone

Giants are bad, but we haven't done that to a bad team since 2022. The Giants were getting a semblance of an OL this year, but Andrew Thomas going down looks like it's going to sink that. And yet with all that, the Giants have given the Eagles (passive) defense fits at times. They were playing the shorter stuff, Jones was holding the ball, and we were getting home. That was a sight for sore eyes. And yes, that is now two games in a row. Against two injured OLs to be sure, but we've gotten burned by the quick short passing game against many a bad OL the last 1.25 years. Beginning to get some hope that Fangio can adjust better than our previous DCs -- that is a lot more fun to watch.

Running game is definitely good. We probably need to spread carries around more if we are going to make that a focus though. Barkley is the best RB I've seen play for the Eagles -- that incudes McCoy and Watters. Westbrook was a different type of player, really. But Barkley seems to always get more yards than it looks like he'll get, and he's a big play threat all the time... there aren't many RBs like him. He has run down over the season with the Giants though, so we don't want to overdo it. Just 17 carries today, which isn't too bad. Good they pulled a bunch of starters for the 4th quarter.

Passing game not great but Hurts was pretty good on the passes he threw. Missed a couple of wide open receivers though -- including Barkley a couple plays before the first Brotherly Shove TD. He sure seems like he's striving to stay in the pocket more and his instincts aren't good. And he's probably not seeing the field at that well. The offense looked better early in the year, but it may help if teams are forced to focus on the run, so if that's working, go with it, and work on the passing.

Oh, and no turnovers. Hallelujah. That helps so much. Especially as we still don't get any back the other way, but being even is a good start.

The two guys on D I was worried most about really showed up today. Nakobe and Slay. Nakobe is so good blitzing and anything in the middle. He did get a break today as the Giants TEs suck. But just a great game. Slay played great. Got nicked up and came back in. Gotta love that from him. He has not been good this year. He was great today.

we all know it’s the Browns and Giants. But the D does look like it’s growing. I’m liking the aggressiveness.

Hurts is starting to concern me. Pocket presence and field vision just has not progressed. It seemingly has regressed. Missed some real easy ones today.

great to see all coaches call a good game.

                        on to Cincinnati

Could it be that Fangio has decided to play to his players strength? I am seeing much tighter coverage, its still off coverage at times but not 12 yards off the ball, more like 6-7. Defensive backs are showing they can handle that no problem. Which now is starting to result in sacks. 12 in the last two games. Nakobe has shown in college he can rush the passer. I like what they are doing now. I don't know if Fangio went to see the Wizard and got some courage but I like what he is doing. This is not what Fangio has done in the past. Really happy to see this. Now it just needs to continue. Whole different animal next week with Cincy. Burrow can kill a defense.

I preface comments with the giants are not a good team but the giants have a very very good DL. Having said that…..
Excellent game by the birds. They dominated a game they should dominate. Something they haven’t done lately.
DeJean is the player I expected to see when they drafted him. Strong on D and between him and Covey we have maybe the best punt return guys in the league.
I don’t believe the skill of our D changed. Fangio changed in a way that lots of people were calling for. As aggressive as anytime this year. He blitzes more and they hit to Jones. A lot of that because the secondary was as aggressive as the DL and LBs. I have some reservation because it was the giants. I want to see how that plays out against a good team or if he goes back into his shell.
Some didn’t like okay calls too much, especially in first qtr, but I thought the calls were much better. They stuck with the run game more even when it didn’t work. You have to keep pounding to get it to work and not be scared to keep trying. On a side note Barkely is outstanding and is a joy to watch. Just like Wilbert Montgomery, Westbrook, McCoy, Sanders et al.
Jurgens will be a stud in years to come. We have a very good OL. Not as great as the media makes them out to be but very good. Tough game for Johnson but they knew that going in because of how good the giants DL is. Even with that I’m not putting all those sacks on the OL. Hurts and RBs have some blame.
Mitchell had another ball go through his hands. Not concerned. The INTs will come. He and the other young guys in the secondary (I include Blakenship) are going to be a highlight for the team if Fangio lets them do their job.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                            Hope is not a strategy
                            RIP

It was an enjoyable win, and we haven’t had a non ROLAIDS game in a long time. But to me, the most enjoyable part of it was the Giants’ FO and fans having to sit there and watch Saquon rush for 176 yards. Absolutely beautiful.
