Bela Bajaria, the chief content officer at Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), has set her eyes on the NFL Sunday games, further getting into sports live streaming and not just special events, after the recent success of the NFL Christmas games.
According to a report from Front Office Sports Tuesday, Bajaria said at The Town podcast, developed by The Ringer and Puck, “I definitely want the Sunday [afternoon] games,” when she was asked what package she would be interested in when NFL media rights became available.
CBS and Fox (FOX) hold the NFL’s current rights, including for Sunday afternoon programming, until after the 2033 season.
The NFL has an opt-out for its individual agreements after the 2029 season, and it is likely that the company would do so after seeing record audiences from live streaming efforts, the report said.
It also has an opt-out for its ESPN (DIS) deal after the 2030 season.
The streaming giant recently secured rights for the Women's FIFA World Cup, has a 10-year deal in place for WWE RAW, and is looking to win rights to the Formula One (FWONA) tournament in the U.S.
