  • Goedert

While this BGN piece could be taken with a grain of salt, the team has to consider a succession plan for the TE1 spot. There are no obvious successors on the roster. Without checking, I think that all of the TE contracts expire after the 2026 season? Calcaterra is a decent receiver, but his blocking...phew! Uzomah is a bit older too.

Goedert's got zero guaranteed money on his deal now. I envision a restructure of Goedert's deal to give him a degree of security while giving the team some more cap space to work with in 2025.

I think they need to re-do his contract. Add a year or so, but until someone who can block and catch as well is on the roster, you don't get rid of him. He misses a bunch of games, but when he is in the lineup, he's arguably top 5-6 and Jalen's security blanket. There is NOTHING behind him, they need 2 TEs already, I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of him. Hell, I'd see how willing Ertz might be to coming back for a year and I'd sign Stoll if he's available. Goedert and Stoll paired with that line has been formidable . I believe Barkley hasn't run behind those 7 . That might have unreal results
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Goedert is a good piece but not integral. I think I'd keep him if you can get him to agree to a team friendly deal. He is hurt a lot. That's the only downside. I'd also look to draft a TE on Day 2.

Hope he is at least back next year and we draft the heir apparent. We’ve been ok without him and he has missed a lot of time. But he is a stud when healthy. Letting him go would hurt the offense.

I’m on board Dawk. I wouldn’t unload Goedert but they need the replacement in the pipeline now. Goedert might perform injury free for a couple more years but that doesn’t mean you don’t have your plan in place. Calcaterra is a nice piece but I don’t see him as the replacement. We have other cats and dogs on the roster but they aren’t hounds. They’re just Heinz 57 types

Sure looks like we are looking to trade him and will take a 4th this year or future. Makes me wonder if there is an nfl te we are looking to pick up or trade for? Just the draft seems risky

I just don’t understand the desire to get rid of him unless there are locker room or contract complaints we don’t know about. I fully understand the desire to look at the future but everyone can easily see Calcaterra is a nice piece but Goedert gives you more. Even if you don’t see Goedert as the future let him play out his contract and walk while you draft a high end TE to develop. Goedert just doesn’t cost that much.

Remember they got rid of Zach Ertz over money and we survived. I like Goedert a lot but this is a business and you have to do what you have to do.

Think we had Goedert when we let Ertz go. This time the only real backup is Calcaterra

im sure they have a plan that is not just drafting one.

At the moment, I don’t like it.

Yes we had Goddard as the heir apparent to Ertz when we let him go. Calcutta is a nice receiver but he certainly isn't another Goddard.

We had Goedert when we got rid of Ertz. And actually kept Ertz quite a bit longer until we got something for him.

Goedert is a pretty key piece of the team. Not sure why we would be looking to trade him unless he wants a very high new contract, and is going to hold out until he gets it -- always possible, as this is the last year on his deal. Or maybe he wants more than the Eagles will give. It's possible the team does not want the dead money to pile up next year. But I don't think we can afford to trade or release him before June 1, so not sure what's going on really.

I saw something about the Gesicki contract really pissed him off

He might not be happy with his money but the question is whether he will be a prick and cause problems or will he just play out the year and do what he can to earn a new contract somewhere next year.
I just don’t see him being a locker room prick about it. I don’t know him though so maybe Howie figures Calcaterra and whatever TE he can grab in rd one or two can handle the duties and the team will be spared Goedert drama all year
