  • Eagles vs the Rams observations

A win is a win is a win. Tail of two halves for sure.

    1. Jalen Hurts - Was really good in this game. Yes he fumbled after getting plastered but I mean why was Johnson not in there to be begin with. He missed Dotson in a down field throw that was lofted instead of zipped in there. In the 2nd half he was outstanding.

    2. Jordan Davis - Dude played a helluva game today. Not just the block for a TD but he runs down Stafford, he was in the backfield a ton. He was getting held a ton. No calls though but something happened where Siranni was really all over the refs about the holding and they said something to the Rams.

    3. Patullo - Is it the play calling or the play execution. In the first half, they were missing blocks, committing penalties, could not get out of their own way. Some of that was play calling but some of that was execution. Seems like they had a wake up call. On a little 8 yard out to AJ Brown and all of a sudden it was good.

    4. Fangio - Look I understand his defense. Its not built for tight games. I know they blocked the kick but that is really are in the NFL. This should have been a loss. Why because his defense couldn't get off the field. The Rams only punted twice. At the end of the first half they drove down for a FG and they were position for a 44 yarder to win it which happens way too much. They need to play much tighter defense when the game is on the line. The off coverage zone just doesn't work that well. It worked out this week and another week though of learning. I am not down Vic I just think we are going to lose our fair share of games like this when there is enough time left for a team to drive down and get a FG.

    5. Special Teams - The kicker for the Rams is doing something to the ball (and its legal) that makes it really tough to catch. I think the NFL should look into this like the Tush Push because it gives them an unfair advantage Seriously thought that kicker lost them the game. No height on his kicks, blocked twice

    6. Zach Baun is just special.

    7. I don't think this was a very well officiated game. They missed a ton on both sides, however the narrative will be the Eagles go away with stuff. Enough of it. The officiating has to get better in the NFL period. Push off for a TD for Adams, PI after PI that should have been called against Forbes., there was a PI that should have been called against Bennett. They just missed call after call.

    8. The running game is struggling because they keep trying to run against stacked boxes. They have to pass to open up the run. You noticed Barkley had a little more run in the second half after they hit a couple of throws.

    9. Fred Johnson man he came in and solidified the line after Lane went out. Lets hope Lane is not out for much time.

    10. I have no idea what Jalen Carter got flagged for. All he was doing was saying I tipped that kick. Really bad look for the NFL.

Overall a win is a win is a win. This one looked like a absolute loss after the first half. Can't continue to have that.

Why did it take so long to pull Pryor and Jackson. They should be released
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Is it just me or did that last kick look like it was going to miss anyway ?. It looked like it was going to pull to the left, which is why Davis was able to block it.

Saw this in the replay from behind the line.

The Eagles speed you up man. To me the entire final
        kick looked rushed.

no edge rush all game? Where was Zadarius Smith?

matt Pryor sux. CUT HIM. Can’t play.

just get the ball to AJ and DeVonte ok.

jalen has to hold the ball more on the RPO. That’s one of the reasons the running game isn’t working. Keep it early.

You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Jalen is targeted by the refs. He needs to know that and just stop jawing. On the other hand, he has to be able to stoke that fire sometimes. Stupid fucking refs.

also remember everyone crowning the Packers? They lost to the Browns.

Fred said that he didn't practice at all at RT since he has been back. So Pryor was the backup, I don't think it will be anymore.

I hate to say this. But, this season is starting off more like 2023 than 2024. Remember in 2023 the Eagles seemed to just squeak by on the way to a 10-1 record. Then, it all caught up to them.

They could easily be 0-3 instead of 3-0. Can you imagine the vitriol towards the OC if that was the case ?

I hope that it's just having a new OC and things will improve.

Thank God Howie made the move to get Fred Johnson back. It may have saved this game.

I am really happy about the win. At halftime, I thought this was a sure loss. But right now, this team is performing nowhere near the end of last year. Barkley has not even sniffed 100 yards yet and is averaging 3.3 ypc. Yikes.

Pliny I agree man. But I think this team looks like it has more leadership. Jalen is way more vocal this year. And Saquon is a huge presence.

the eagles schedule is just brutal.

that said I thinking going down to Tampa if lane is back and they are otherwise healthy the Bucs better be ready.

I don't think we should cut Prior, He's a guard, not a tackle. His style is a road gradar, not stuck out on an island trying to pass block. That was Stoutland's call to replace Lane with Pryor. As to how they finally went to Fred is anybody's guess, but I'm sure Nick had something to do with it.

That CB #2 spot is a major problem. Nacua had 11 for 112 yards. Clearly, they were targeting that #2 CB, regardless of who it was. I don't know what the solution is, but they've gone from a pro bowl level player in Slay to hot garbage. It's going to cost them games.

Didn’t help watching Rodgers get an INT, force 2 fumbles and score 2 TDs yesterday. I think Bennett or MacWilliams will be in there as they get up to speed.

I agree Bennett will be there but I don’t know that he is much better than Jackson. And MacWilliams is really an unknown.
Rogers certainly had a good game in MN. As did Wentz who set a record for playing for six teams in six years
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                        Hope is not a strategy

Nacua got a ton on the safeties in the zone. He is the best short area WR in football. He always finds a spot in the zone and that catch against Q was something else. Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the opponent.

Bennett had stickier coverage than Jackson and is a better at tackling however he is going to get called from some PI's he is too sticky at times. Should have kept Rodgers one of the rare L's by Howie.
Sidney Brown can't cover or tackle.
Mukuba is still learning, He had a few blown coverages as did Blankenship. This is a lot like the beginning of last year.
Also Campbell didn't have the best game yesterday.

I don't see this as 2023, I see this more as the beginning of 2024. Do they have some problems with Patullo play calling yeah but I can say there were ton of mistakes in the first half by the offense. Missed blocks, missed passes, wrong routes run, backs not hitting the hole (yeah Saquan has looked human).
Its all fixable. I do think they have to pass to open up the run more and I think they will going forward.

They are going to lose to the Bucs. Hurts just can't go beat them.

Totally agree on all three. Campbell struggled in run defense big time. Got toyed with. Good learning game for him thought.

Sydney just sucks. Had high hopes when we drafted him. Just hasn’t given us much and at this point it likely means he never will

Q stayed with Adams. Felt like we could have adjusted on Nacua. We gave him a lot of space. Even when Coop was covering.

I still say the biggest problem on this team is Patullo. They've got to get the ball downfield to AJ. This offense is ridiculous until he does it. What the hell is this guy thinking? We all saw what happened in the second half when they finally started getting the ball to him.
