I like what i'm seeing of this kid, especially on punt returns. He IS going to break one this year. Maybe a couple. Also showed sure hands in the passing game. I was nervous when he went in for X-rays but thankfully he's OK.
I wasn't going to say anything because the way everyone's been raving about him, I thought I must be wrong...but he didn't look "quick" to me. He looked fast, if that makes sense, but not quick. In other words, I wasn't seeing a "second gear". He looked fine, but I didn't necessary see anything that made me go "WOW" or anything that would warrant the raves that he seems to be getting. He had one nice return where it looked like he personally produced a few extra yards, but otherwise he was just following the wedge and moving straight ahead. Nothing wrong with that, mind you. The praise I think he deserves is that he looked very confident on the punts. He fair caught the ones he should have, and handled them all cleanly with no hints of a fumble - that's priority #1 for your punt returner.
Our blocking left a lot to be desired but still Bloom looked calm and cool taking what we gave him. His best move though was when he stiff-armed that guy into the ground while running a punt up the left side..
Agree, I didn't see anything to make me think that he was the next JR Reed, but all in good time, and yes he's faster than Reno.

I also expect him to impress this year. Sure handed, etc is good. Speed, eh we'll see as the season progresses. I think it is tough to gauge anything based on the first pre-season game. Coming off tough camp, his first live action against an opponent, still thinking, etc.
As with the OL I won't be concerned until they play a game or two in Sept.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy

Some of you guys are pretty tough to impress! It's his first time against a live opponent and he handled it better than anyone could really expect. He fielded the ball cleanly, held it tight (remember the picture Big Philly posted last week of Moats?). For a rookie (I still consider him a rookie since he didn't even make it onto the field last year) I think he did a fantastic job last night. He'll only get better as he gets more experience so for a starting point I think he did more than I expected.
My only concern is his durability and needing X-rays in the first preseason game certainly didn't do anything to quell those fears. With the loss of Moats I'm a bit concerned about our return depth. I don't want to see Hunt back there and Westbrook is out of the question even if Bloom goes down. Other than the durability question, I think Bloom is looking like a great improvement for this team (of course Andy Reid could field punts and seem like an improvement over Reno!!!)

Well, I agreed with YPCM last night and I do also today..... I only saw the 2nd half but after hearing all the hype i wasn't impressed with the speed.. I know I know, I'm guessing my expectation levels were to high or something and I'm sure you guys are right, but I want to see him hit that second gear at some point and then I'm sure my mind will be changed.
My mind sez he has 4.2 speed but my eyes didn't record it that way------I'm sure it's just me.
To be fair, in order to get to that 'second gear' there has to be hole to hit to get there. Last night, he didn't really have many holes to hit, especially on kickoffs. He had some room on the one punt but if I remember right, they had the angle on him at the sideline and pushed him out.
I think he is going to be a nice upgrade in the return game.

Exactly my point above Theo about him "taking what we gave him". That sideline run was the one where he stuffed the defender with a Wesbrook like straight-arm.
