  • 9/24/07: Eagles inactives for Week #3

In case anyone is curious, and didn't know, here were the Eagles' inactives for yesterday...

TE L.J. Smith, QB A.J. Feeley, FS Brian Dawkins, CB Lito Sheppard, LB Pago Togafau, G Scott Young, DT LaJuan Ramsey and DE Victor Abiamiri.

    * Making up that "inactives" list sure must be easier when you can put Smith, Dawkins and Sheppard on it!

    * Does anyone have any doubt that Abiamiri would be giving us more than Kearse at this point? If you're Reid obviously you have to give the veteran the benefit of the doubt for a bit (I guess), but if Kearse is still invisible through, say, Week #7....I think it's time to cut bait.

Kearse wasn't so invisible that the Linesman didn't catch him jumping the snap twice for penalties.

On the other hand, his stats were TOTALLY invisible! I feel bad for the guy, but he just doesn't seem to be contributing much of anything at this point. It's especially disappointing for everyone...Kearse included...considering how explosively he started off last year before the devastating knee injury.

I think you are correct in choosing week 7. If he isn't up tp speed when he comes back from the bye, they will probably activate Abiamiri.

no tackles, no sacks, lots of false starts. kearse is through. get abiamiri on the field.

It's a tale of two FA signings from Tennessee players:
Jon Runyan - possibly the best FA signing ever
Jevon Kearse - possibly the worst FA signing ever

I agree, give him until the bye week, then make the change.

Kinda shocked at how little slack "this" injured player gets.

You guys may be right (that he is done) but frankly I think he might just need to get back into game shape after missing last year and having to rehab from a pretty serious injury himself.

I'll personally trust the coaches to determine if he is worth keeping around for right now, based on what they have asked him to do and how he has responded.

Could be. Could be. I was a little hestitant in even bringing this up (although that didn't stop me.) However, with DE's it's a little different than QB's. QB's coming off of knee injuries are mostly a matter of getting confidence and timing back. With a DE's it more a matter of getting strength back......Shouldn't Kearse have that strength back? With DE's it's often also a matter of loss of quickness and first step that may never come back. There isn't much Kearse can do about that. I think that's the concern. We're 1-2. If we were 3-0 right now it wouldn't be an issue to see if Kearse can rebound, but seeing him shooting blanks knowing we may have someone who can step in and do much better when we are 1-2 is painful.

We're talking about a guy whose nickname derives from his amazing speed for the position. He pretty much admitted before the season he'll never have that kind of speed again. IMO, all of the false start penalties he's getting are the result of him trying to jump the snap count to make up for some of that lost speed.

It's a good point, but it's dangerous around here to be critical of a player who's not playing well, you'll probably be ambushed.

Kearse is playing like crap from what I've seen. He's got one move, and it relies on speed which he soes not posess. Will he get that back? Hard to say, I'm doubtful. I feel like right now Jevon can be an effective player coming off the bench with fresh legs. But we are paying alot of money for him to be a bench player.

I doubt they will cut him this year. But they may quit playing him for a while if he doesn't get results. I think they will not decide whether or not to keep him until next year. And by next year, he will have recovered as much as he is going to recover from the knee injury.

You know what we need to start doing? We should boo him like we've never booed anyone before. Because booing makes players play better.

Nothing will help Kearse but a new set of wheels, or successful strengthening of his legs. If I thought booing him would help, I'd do it. For right now I'll just have to settle for dogging him on a message board.
