  • Maybe the Birds should consider forfeiting...

games before the bye week from now on!

Big Red has many strengths but preparation before the bye week apparently "ain't" one. Exactly what was the offensive game plan tonight...other than maybe ending McNabb's career.

(My thoughts on Andy's pregame thinking...)

Let's see? hmmm....a green LT is getting his baptismal against one of the NFL's premier pass rushers? Let's leave him naked the entire game, no matter how many sacks he gives up. He'll learn from his mistakes. It'll be a character builder for the big lad. What doesn't kill you (or McNabb) makes you stronger. Should be good for his confidence down the road.

With Westy out and with the Gnats sole defensive strength being their ends and with Spags knowing our weaknesses, their pass rush will be intense. OK! So that means screens and draw plays are OUT tonight.

Quick slant routes are OUT as well, because I don't want to embarrass NY's shitty secondary. That wouldn't be Christian...or Mormon...or whatever!

With our dominant O line, we should try to establish Bucky early JUST to prove we can move the ball on the ground if we want to, and then forget about running the ball until late in the game when the Giants have a healthy lead .

Let's see? What else...hmm! The boys are probably looking forward to a week off, so no use nagging them with silly reminders about team discipline. We've only averaged 3 penalties a game this year, so if they want to get a little creative, what's the harm?

I think that about covers it!

Tino though you're half joking here I'm really pissed that Reid is this god damned stubborn and pigheaded that we are not prepared - EVERY year going into the bye week. Last night was one of the worst coaching jobs I've ever seen. Andy is NOT capable of making adjustments during the games -- even the most basic adjustment. I stayed up until 1:30 watching that crap on TiVO (couldn't catch it live for a lot of reasons so I got started at 11:30.) I was up again at 4:00 with the baby so besides being angry and dumbfounded, I'm also tired as hell. If this keeps up I'll have to have a special desk made with a cubby hole to take naps. I'll have to make sure I don't get an alarm clock though... I've heard that can cause a building be evacuated.

I really like Andy but if he gets fired or quits I'm not sure I'll be quite as upset as some others. I don't want to lose him but I can't stand his stubborn streak and bullshit explanations when the obvious changes aren't made. Good coaches help their players succeed. Last night this coaching staff cost us the game. Penalties or not, I'm putting it 90% on Castillo, Andy and Marty.

      Juk,

A rather warped sense of humor is the only thing that has enabled me to survive 50 years of pulling for Philly's pro sports teams. Without it I would have long ago lost even the vestiges of sanity.

I don't pretend to be very knowledgeable about all it takes to be a successful HC in the NFL, but it seems to me that thoughtful flexibility and the willingness/capacity to make adjustments to the situation at hand are pretty fundamental. Persistence in applying one's basic philosophy is admirable as long as (1) the philosophy is basically sound and (2) it is not bound by stubborn rigidity that disregards reality. And that is where, IMO, Andy has repeatedly shown weakness.

Combining the roles of GM and HC is a daunting task for anyone under even the best of circumstances, and while I have been and remain a strong supporter of AR, I have also long believed that in-game coaching is his area of relative weakness. Like you, I don't want to see Andy leave the Birds, but I wouldn't mind at all if he focused exclusively on the GM role and handed the HC title, responsibilities AND authority over to a smart, innovative young guy not named Morningweig.

      I think maybe it's time.
